My T-SHIRT is Hugo Rafael Chávez, NOT Che Guevera.

Close enough.

I don't see Chavez bowing to any pressure from Dubyah. In fact, Chavez provides discount oil in my town, courtesy of Joe Kennedy. Why should Venezuela, or any country, care about US copyright laws? What benefit does ANY person who lives outside of the US see by enforcing US laws?
Other countries do benefit in this area, since copyright treaties or agreements also protect the copyright holders in their own country. For instance, Sweden has a pretty large biotech industry; should US pharmacuetical companies be allowed to simply ignore their copyright and produce drugs that Swedish companies paid many millions (or perhaps billions) of dollars to develop? Why would the US honor Swedish copyrights if they didn't honor ours?

Sweden already strenthened their copyright law in 2005; even if Pirate Bay is currently not in violation of the current law, that can change with a stroke of the pen or a court ruling (as I understand, the Swedish Supreme Court hasn't ruled on the matter as it pertains to Pirate Bay yet).

I suppose Pirate Bay could move to a country that isn't a signatory of the relevant treaty, but most developed (and some not so developed) countries are already signatories to the WIPO.

Unfortunately for Hugo, paranoid rants, thuggery and name-calling aren't eligible for copyright protection.
