I received the same message this morning, and it appears that my bandwidth has been crippled as a result. Anyone else having similar issues?
:::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 645 Kbps about 0.65 Mbps (tested with 748 kB) Download Speed is:: 79 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 918 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Upload Speed is:: 112 kB/s Tested From:: http://testmy.net (Server 2) Test Time:: 2007/01/20 - 3:45pm D-Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/stats/id-RJ9MPG6L4 U-Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/stats/id-JFBRZP761 User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1 [!] 15 minutes after posting this, I received a call from Insight informing me that my upload bandwidth usage was too high. System flagged my account because I uploaded 5 GB in 24 hours. It appears that my usage is affecting other users on the network, and I have to control my usage. This is a crock, why give me the bandwidth in the first place if they are not going to allow me to use it!!!!! The tech stated that since switching to the new higher speeds , that Insight would be forced to monitor bandwidth usage more closely.

| So, that is why eveyone thinks that Insight sucks. Maybe that is why Iggy has been having all of those mysterious speed issues while on Insight's Highspeed network.
The new marketing campaign for Insight is "Beware, Digital 2.0 does not include you, if you share your connection with others!" -- I threw out the map a long time ago. Now I follow my own direction! |

Only have them for CATV, and that is all I am going to have them for. -- I threw out the map a long time ago. Now I follow my own direction! |

1 edit | I max out my connection on the newsgroups often. 1.2MBp/s. I downloaded 96.86GB in almost 3 days once, or so newsbin told me I did.
Anyway point is if insight limits my bandwidth I will move to another service provider. I live in town and near a DSL office. Which is pretty good considering they give 4mbps connections there. I have a friend on DSL and he gets a constant good speed with no problems.
If they keep this up they will lose a customer. So all I got to say is if I receive a letter I will be done with Insight. What a great way to lose customers, of course Mr. Wilner has no comment over this whole thing so far has he?
I am an avid gamer. On a daily basis I usually download over 30-40GB of trailers, and patches. It isn't everyday but I am constantly on my pc using it. My as well move to the UK, at least they allow 300GB caps in some areas of that. Torrents, File sharing, and other programs have been a big part of what I do when I am on the pc. I mostly game, and usually when I game I run a server. Insight is bsing they gotta be. I mean come on they can limit the bandwidth to something, it was there huge idea to go to the new speed. I was just fine frankly at my damn 4mbps. At least I got that. Hell how can I max out my connection when I can barely load internet pages due to high packet loss. I can't even use teamspeak because of the packet loss I've got. Its total bs. a 15-30% packet loss all the time now. For days its been like this.
This service is becoming more and more like Adelphia. Wilner I don't know what the hell you are trying to pull but cut it out. Give me back my old connection and take away this stupid limit. What good is customer service when they go and limit my bandwidth?
If your service can't handle the bandwidth then take us all back down. Your in a bind and we can tell it. Comcast, Timewarner, none of these companies limit their speed. |

| reply to INTENS1 You all (talking to the posters for this topic)are not getting the point, Insight is trying to give us a better(stable) connection. I myself have uploaded about 22gig in (1)66hr session and then in another 28 hr session 12gig all this in less than a month.Approx all in 3 weeks.Insight is sending those e-mails to people that are leaving there connection on 24/7 for more than 30 days. All those people are doing is causing a problem for others (most likely teens)that don't know how to use P2P software the right way, 1-1 share ratio then disconnect. So I don't understand why all of you are up in arms about this? Maybe some of you need some help with the setup of P2P software that you are using?
Maybe someone can enlighten me? |

| They wouldn't have to do this if they didn't make a promise for 10mbps connections. A professional ISP like comcast test things before they jump the gun. Comcast provides very stable speeds. I have people who have this that I play games with, who run programs all night. Downloaders of the news groups, and what not. They have no complaints from comcast. Comcast is able to HANDLE what they give. If your only getting the connection you pay for, no more no less you can't "Use" up more bandwidth then you have now can you?
I pay for my internet connection, if I have to limit what I do with it, then I want my bill brought down to. This is bull crap, and they can't pull this for long. Just wait. People on this forum make up a small community. I gurante all insights gamers start getting this crap they will leave. My buddy aleady left this ISP service.
I won't be far behind if they keep this up, when I had dial up it was even better. Its pretty bad when users actually down-grade to dial-up, to get away from these hypocrites. Which is exactly to me what this is. Why are we suddenly BEING told we can't utilize our connection because of some STUPID limit. Its unheard of in the USA. |

| Still and the letter is so generic
"Dear Generic Customer"
Its just now starting to happen. Suddenly this policy which was probably updated recently. Since this upgrade, I had talked to customer support. They told me that users on my node were causing degrading performance for others. So I am thinking to myself being a cable company in this day and age you'd think that they'd have the ability to dish out the bandwidth for their customers.
Which also has got me thinking, before the upgrade insight had been offering a plan, and there wasn't near as many complaints is there is now. I mean at least there was no emails being sent out about usage. Everyone was capped at 400-600KB. I got to admit its a pretty generic package, but at least my service worked all the time. Instead of now it being shitty at peak times, and more recently my packet loss being 15-30% constantly. They need to balance out there service, update what needs to be updated be it better connections, and make it work.
I know that I will not stay with Insight if I get a letter about my usage. Especially in that manner, "hey we think you should use your connection like this, and that" the thing is many of these people have carried on doing what they do for years with Insight, and like I said up until now there was no problem. Now since insight has doubled its speed people are not allowed to carry on with what we use to be able to do.
If I login to a game, start up my own game. I can't adjust how much upstream I put out. Its just so much bull crap. Its really disappointing.
As far as comcast, the people who I know on it. Download way more then I do. Big users of the news groups. They haven't gotten no letter. Verizon could get a lot of customers they came through here, I'll tell you that. Who needs cable that limits bandwidth when Verizon can dish out 15mpbs and 2mbps up. |

But reading words isn't a cause for lack of thought, so ask yourself, if his words count less than others because he doesn't have the service but reflects about the same reaction as the ones that do? It is perfectly fine to opine on a policy that has no effect on him, as it would if he had been to it. Now if he were complaining about his service in this forum, since he doesn't have Insight, that would be another. |

| Quote from araxen:"It has come to our attention that you have used the maximum amount of bandwidth possible over a 24-hour period and have maintained that usage over a period of 30 days.
Excessive bandwidth usage places a burden on the network and is in violation of the Insightbb.com Acceptable Use Policy see sections vii and viii."
The above is a letter sent out to a few "abusers".All they have to do is not download 30 days in row? |

| reply to TBC1 His thought on people that have left it on for 30 days 24 hours a day doesn't hold water. I've had this connection up for close to 2 years continuously, minus the downtime caused by weather or Insight's upgrades and occasional problems. And before I lived here, I was in Louisville with the connection up for nearly 3 years straight w/ the same exceptions above. Since they advertise it as an always on connection, you'd think they'd plan for the bandwidth requirements for it.
The ironic thing is that the last 30 days have seen some of the lowest usage on my part. Yes, I use BitTorrent occasionally to grab larger files (Linux distros, etc...), but my biggest bandwidth usage are my VPN connections to clients and my office, not games or file sharing. |

Well thought it was about my bill so I paid it 01/19/07...Well got up Sat. (01/20/07) to play in an Unreal Tourney and couldn't because of no internet. They turned it off.I called to find out what was wrong and after going thew all the Techs I finally got my answer.I was 'Flagged' for to much 'Upload' bandwidth (Over 5 gig.in a 24 hr period)which caused problems with the other customers. Pissed me off...It's up and running again but will I stay? Lookin' for other options now. |

| reply to GLIMMER I upload to. In fact I make a lot of videos, with fraps. Turn them into a video and upload them.
As far as Verizon, I never said they served here. I can get Bellsouth ADSL. I'd like FIOS, but it isn't in this area yet.
As for comcast, at least it works a good portion of the time. Don't be a little insight suck up, grow a pair and say whats on your mind. They've messed up by sending out these emails, and its just started. Which means, its due to them not being able to handle what they can dish out.
In the email it clearly says the news groups, kazaa, and among other things, I am not sure where you think the files you download off the NG, actually come from. I guess the magical upload fairy uploads them to them. Sheesh you idiot your worse then IGGY posting non-sense in which you have no clue what your talking about.
I can upload 3GB in a hours time, and have done it to our website FTP. So don't give me crap, about how i use my connection. You have no clue what I do with it.
Its bs that Insight is now not only not delivering a good service, but they are actually telling users that because they cannot handle the bandwidth they've promised that they can't USE their connection. Theres now a BANDWIDTH limit. Its crap, this is not the freaking UK.
Since Comcast limits theres to, thats fine. However I've got friends on it who have never had one bit of lip, and they upload and are on twice the amount of time I am. Timerwarner another one, like I said it may not be as fast as Insight tells people theres is, but at least you get what you pay for, and I ain't paying for my connection to have a constant 30% packet loss, and my web pages to load only half of the time, just to get an email telling me that I the "Generic Customer" am not allowed to use my connection, that doesn't work. |
