I'm going to get some tool points in the morning and start posting here, because the blogging sites are blocked at work.

Thanks for the help, guys.

He's premium, so the limit doesn't apply. The 4 pic limit is only for non-premium members.

Very interesting photos you have taken. I am suprised how good they have turned out so far.

As for setting up a gallery here on D S L reports, you'll be limited to 4 images per gallery unless you pay.

Your other option would be to set up your blog page, like blogger.com or wordpress.com. Either one is fairly simple, you're page is already made so all you have to do is log on and make new posts.

Once you make a page there, you could ask people to visit your gallery and they can post there - the downside is it will get less, whats the word, views than if your images were on this site (dslreports.com).

(Per an IM request by a user, and that user's help in finding software compatible with JAWS to do it (thanks), I am uploading at 800x600)

(Can someone tell me how to start a gallery here so I don't make this thread (too much) longer? )

I like the idea of catching motion with a slow shutter speed, and a friend at work gave me the idea to have the shutter open while shining a laser pointer around the wall.

I'm open to suggestions of other things to try as well.

By the way, to focus, I turned on the lights, let the camera focus and give me the double-beep, then I changed the focus switch to manual so the camera wouldn't focus-hunt once the lights were off.

Since I posted a picture of my quarter jar dumped out on the counter, I thought I should post the pictures of the state quarter book. Every other week or so, Aaron comes over and goes through my change jar with me and puts the quarters in the book.

I guess I need to figure out how to set up a gallery...

My buddy Aaron just left after getting his daily Linux lessons and helping me compose some interesting shots...

It's Time...

To count the money...

NIKON D50

Cook the food...

NIKON D50

And drink some water...

NIKON D50
55mm 1/60th F5.6

(I had help with this one...)

Aaron told me he is as impressed as you all, he says "I can't take a clear picture of an empty field on a sunny with a disposable camera, and I have 20/20 vision!"

(I should show you all how I shoot left-handed...)

from this end, it just looks a bit out of focus. there isnt any motion issues in that one. double check your focus ring.

Autofocus isn't perfect, as I myself am learning quickly.

(not sure if there is anything you can feel on the lense or not to know where it is. if not, perhaps someone here with nikon could be of help.)

That would be my guess, to double check the focus.

We've got storms here, so I decided to try one of the manual modes and try to get some lightning pictures. My friend Aaron said that this was the best one, but he says it's fuzzy. I hung my laptop bag on the camera tripod and had the camera in Shutter priority mode with a 15 second shutter speed. Any idea why it might be fuzzy?

Pizza
alpha,

Did you eat that pizza? there is a curly black hair on it.

Also, in one of the other forums here we put a short description of the images we post in the captions of the uploaded images. This helps those using reading software to understand what the image is. Maybe if we did that in here we could help get more people with limited or no sight get more involved in photography?

these are some great night shots. here is a couple observations:

it seems there is a bit of motion blur. i would suggest a couple things. you already said you were using a tripod, so good there. Is it a light tripod though? if so, maybe weigh it down a bit. I know my cheapy tripod i use for my video camera has a hook in the middle i can hang a bag with weight in it from. That might help the motion a bit.

The other thing to try, and I am not sure if the D50 has this capability or not, maybe someone else here familiar with nikon can answer to this. But on my k10d it has a "2 second self timer" mode that basically pulls up the mirror two seconds before the shutter triggers, to prevent vibrations caused by the mirror pulling up right before the exposure.

Anyways, great shots, I imagine they will only get better.

Tony says this thing has really good night mode, even in auto, and insisted I give it a try. I had to drag the tripod out of the closet.

i think you are off to a great start, even if these are in auto mode. few more months, and you will probably be shocking us all in manual mode

As mentioned Here, a friend of mine who is moving overseas gave me his Nikon D50 and accessories. I've been messing around with it after listening to the PDF and trying to make heads or tails out of it.

What do you think?
