Zyxel P-660R-ELNK

Is is possible to use a Zyxel P-660r-elnk DSL modem/router with a service other than Earthlink? Which Zyxel model does this OEM model equate to? Is it possible to update the firmware to a stock Zyxel version?

A few months ago. I flashed my Zyxel P-660r-elnk to Zyxel OEM. But before I did this. I looked at the Zyxel web page really carefully. To find the right P-660r firmware to match up with the Earthlink P-660r version.

Disclaimer: You do this at your own risk.

After looking at all of the datasheets for the Zyxel P-660r. I came to the conclusion that P-660r-D1 was the right choice. This modem is considered ADSL2+ Router over POTS.

Next I went over the firmware page. And click on P-660r-D1 with the firmware version 3.40(AGE.2) 10-14-2006. After I opened the file. I went back into P-660r modem and flashed the OEM from there.

Once the flash was completed. I power cycled the modem. Then pushed the reset button in the back. And in a minute or two. The Zynos configurator went to work. Once the modem has self configured itself, your ready to go.

I was thinking of getting rid of the modem. But after seeing what the latest Zyxel firmware did, I'm keeping it now.

Thanks!!! It worked for me as well. I also found that if I flashed the AGE.1 firmware before the AGE.2 the Earthlink logo became a Zyxel logo. I found it strange that the router still reports itself as a P-660r-elnk.
