Re: sbc YAHOO DSL BASIC package wi-fi questionAT&T Yahoo DSL is ADSL (unless you have IDSL which is more expensive and slower, unlikely). The base modem is actually a modem/router that does PPPoE and NAT by default, but may only have 1 port. If you did not opt for the wireless/modem/router, there is no need for a different modem. You can plug any wireless router into that (I recently bought a wireless router for a friend at $5.00 after rebates). The router WAN would automatically get a DHCP IP from the modem/router, you just have to make sure that LAN is different private IP range.
If you want to avoid double NAT (to simplify port forwarding or special apps), you can change the modem to bridge mode and configure PPPoE on the router WAN instead. You would no longer be able to access modem statistics, but could always reset it to access that if needed for troubleshooting (my 1st DSL modem had no stats). |
