Dynamic IPs

How often do you get a new IP on the regular teksavvy residential service? Is it everytime the modem loses a connection and has to reconnect?

I'm asking because I visit a website that i have to login and it asks for my username and password everytime the IP changes (some security feature) and i've noticed that it asks me to do this very often.

It's everytime the modem loses a connection. On a clean/proper line, this shouldn't happen very often, it isn't unheard of to have people who've had the same IPs for months.

Yes, and AIUI, only at those times.

(In actual fact it's at the time of *PPPoE* dis/connect - your modem can stay attached - the sync stays up - but you can still have a PPPoE re/connect. This can happen if you adjust settings {even those not related to PPPoE, for example DHCP address space} on your off-the-shelf router, and it follows up that change with a full reset).

(I had a crappy ISP once, GoSonic if you must know, who would cause every user's PPPoE session to disconnect and reconnect, once per 24 hrs, causing not only a new IP addy {no big deal for me} but *disconnecting* whatever transfer I was in the middle of, or listening to online radio, or whatever. When confronted they first said that it was DHCP renewal {lie #1} and 2) it was for my own security {lie #2}. I think they used Bell's discarded tech support reps :/
