My download seem to have increased?

The best download I could ever get was 4199 on the Java speedtests like Cogeco, videotron. But today, some how I'm getting as high as 4287. Bell or you guys did something?

What ever you guys did I'm not complaining.

As Flash indicated, we've been testing the new network and have started rolling people over to it as of the last few days.... It's in part why I've been on a little more sporadically. Had Bell people over reviewing things with us and also working with Marc to roll over. Right now I think we have about half to three quarters of our clients on the new network. Southern Ontario, the GTA and possibly even Ottawa (will happen shortly if it hasn't already) are going over the new stuff.

The difference....

You might see a slight difference when rebooting as by doing so, those affected, you would now be going over the new network and would land up with an MTU of 1492 instead of 1452 which would give mathematically about a 4% to 5% difference in your results.

Regards,

Rocky

R0CKY... unbelievable... do you ever stop thinking of ways to improve the service?

I, too, have noticed an increase in upload and download speeds thanks to the new MTU.

As per the tweak test, I am now seeing this:
Max packet sent (MTU): 1492
Max packet recd (MTU): 1492

Woohoo!

Hehehe.... We're about to reach the maximum on the tweaking now....

....the only thing that might make things better at this point would be to flip over to ADSL2+ DSLAMs (Bell's job) or to bring Fibre right to the home!

Have a good one!

It's official, a new world record for a ping !

In the past, my pings to piero from Montreal never went below 20ms, usually at 21ms.

This morning, I have seen one as low as 16.6ms, and although some still go above 20ms, (just saw one go to 27ms :-(, it seems that sub 20ms pings are now common.

(by pings, I mean here UDP traceroute round trip calculations which are slightly different from real pings).

My conclusion is that they must have ordered those magic pills from the internet that garantee to improve ping size by 3 ms

Hey there Mr Tsi Rocky,

while my pings to piero are down, my MTU is still stuck at 1452. I think I updated my router, I restarted the PPPoE session, and it still *appears* to be 1452. (mss 1412)

I tried calling your world famous office with such perfect tech support this morning, just to inquire if my sesssion is on the new line yet or not (aka: is the 1452 problem at my end, or am I still on an old line limited to 1452), alas, all I get is the pre-recorded message that all your employees are currently busy playing with their new segways in your huge campus. :-( :-(

jfmezei_, have you rebooted the ADSL modem as well?

> jfmezei_, have you rebooted the ADSL modem as well?

In what way would rebooting the modem affect MTU at all ? The modem doesn't do any IP at all. It just takes ethernet frames and splits them into 48 byte packets that fit into ATM frames.

It is the router which is the last TCPIP point of contact between me and Teksavy. beyond the router, it is PPPoE, ethernet and ATM.

(my router is physically separate from the modem).

Only Toronto and London have been cut. Ottawa should be next Monday or Tuesday. After that we may have to wait for the second circuit to be in place to move the rest. Bell doesn't want to put too much traffic on one fibre line.

As I'd mentioned I knew southern ontario and the GTA were done... thought maybe the ottawa area, but I hadn't said your area.... So, based on your MTU, your still not on the new network. Soon come!

We're phasing things in.... The montreal one might only happen on the next Gig-E conversion, which means somewhere in April likely! Sorry pal... guess you're waiting.

After changing the MTU, and some other tweaks, I managed to get a little bit higher.

Yeah, looks like me too.

I used to pull 309kB/s to my workstation. I'm now at 321-325.

Which is precisely the 4-5% increase the doctor said to expect from the blue pill.

Thanks!

I managed to pull 530 KByte/s. Which is something I've never seen over DSL before.

Like Rocky said, We are merging areas over to the new network. We don't have exact timelines as to when it will be complete, but we are certainly doing our best to get it going as fast as possible.

So, if I haven't been moved yet, the decrease in ping to piero tells me that you must have moved a significant number of users to a new line and/or router interface, allowing for faster transfers for us second class citizens in québec who are still on your old line.

Wait a minute, how come my upload has never been over 5xxKbps?
Anyone got this problem? My upload seems to be around 4xxKbps most of the time even though my profile is 5000/800. This is the best I've got so far. Hum.....

JF/Riaz,

It's entirely possible that offloading some of the other customers on to the new network has helped... The FE cards were heating up non-stop and the Bell people were watching them like hawks. So, yeah, I could see that having helped.... even the second class citizens!

We pulled the heavier locations off and on to the new network, so JF, hurry up and tell more people about us so that you overheat the FE card your on so the bell reps tell us to get that area the hell off and on to the new network!

Not sure when your area will be moved. Might be over the next couple days, or it might be once the second Gig-E is converted to the new network (by mid to end of April is the plan for this one).
