GW network

I goto GW and we have fiber (including in the dorms) and have to use a media converter which converts the fiber to ethernet so we can connect up our computers. I'm just wondering what kind of switch would connect all of these fiber drops and wouldn't they be incredibly expensive?

just a speed test for fun:

You only need connect the media converter to the switch and share the bandwidth through it.

What do you mean? Do you mean they have another media converter at the other end of the line converting it back to Ethernet? That seems like sometime they wouldn't do for 250 runs in a dorm.

Yes, on their end the university uses a fiber switch. And yes, it's expensive.
