Re: DST Changes on Exchange 5.5

I see that the tool can be used with Exchange 5.5 but I am confused. In the directions it states you have to run the DST update on your Exchange server and there are documents form Microsoft that state that the patch is not available to you unless you have a Custom Support Agreement. Our corporate office also stated that our national rep with Microsoft stated that you cannot update the scheduling within exchange without the patch and extended support. At the time we inquired about it...the rep stated that the patch hasnt even been written yet and it would cost our entire organization $250,000 to get it. So I am assuming this tool that you linked that states its compatibility with 5.5 isnt the entire solution for updating exchange. I am going to build a test lab and see exactly what this tool will do as I am very confused.

I assume there are 3 steps:

1) Update the OS DST (no brainer here)
2) Update Exchange DST (cloudy?)I think this is the one that isnt available for 5.5 with out a Serv. contract
3) Update clients that have old reoccurring appointments (?) This is the calendar update tool that can be ran against the server but doesn't modify the core DST changes in exchange?

Microsoft KB930879 states:
"After you install the DST updates for Microsoft Windows and for Exchange Server, all old appointments that occur during the DST change periods will be incorrectly displayed as occurring one hour later. This is true for both recurring and single-instance appointments. These appointments must be updated so that they will be displayed correctly in Outlook, in Outlook Web Access, and in CDO-based applications.

Outlook provides a tool that is named the Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool. This tool enables users to update their own calendars."
.

•To obtain a fix for daylight saving time changes on Exchange Server 5.5, you must first enroll in a Microsoft Support Services Custom Support Agreement.

I am not sure of that myself. There is a webinar in about an hour that I am taking part in. If I find out anything good, I will post it here.

There might still be time to sign up for the webinar:

Sigh the Exchange DST CDO fixes for both 5.5 and 2000 are binary only and are only available to those with EHSA and CSA contracts.
