I've been getting disconnected a few times tonight here in Montreal. Sync remains steady. 5 minutes later everything is back to normal. Am I alone in this? (I REALLY hope not ) |

| reply to trax Sigh.. I was afraid of that. There might be a connection between the disconnects and using UDP port 7777 for gaming (old Unreal), as that is the only thing I can see happening statistically at the same time.
This is going to be a very small needle in a very big haystack.
Random idea: Does the pppoe spec send keep alives? Going googling |

On my Linux router my PPP(oE) does sent LCP-echo requests per my config. Those are, AIUI, like pings between my PPP(oE) client and the DSLAM. As mine is configged, if 3 in a row fail then my PPP(oE) link is assumed to be failed so it automatically is taken down, then attempts to reconnect are made.
So maybe look into LCP echo requests? (FWIW these LCP echo requests are a feature of *PPP* {which itself is a subset of the features of PPPoE}).
But I don't think that they act as a keep-alive. AIUI a PPP(oE) link stays up until *instructed* to come down (which may happen on an off-the-shelf router that has the 'max idle time' setting set to something other than 0 - where 0 disables the auto-disconnect).
Good luck and perhaps let us know what you find (out)? |
