| My Questions about DSL specifically Teksavvy.
I am a current Rogers customer and I plan on switching to Teksavvy as soon as my Rogers Bundle Deal ends with Rogers. I have been with a cable internet company since forever from Shaw to Rogers, so I think I lack the knowledge of DSL. I have read/skimmed through many FAQs and some postings about questions concerning DSL to get an idea, but I still have some questions that relate the the wiring of my housing and speeds.
•I have used this link provided by Rocky to locate the CO. It would seem that I am about 4km away from the CO by road and 2.5km. Now would this allow me to achieve the 5Mb/800kb profile? • All my computers are located in the basement, which only has 1 phone jack. This only phone jack already has a 1-2 splitter (splits 1 jack into 2 jacks), which feeds 1 phone on the main floor and one phone in the basement. Can I attach a 1-3 splitter and just plug the modem to that? In general how would this affect my line stats? • My home had two phone lines from the previous owner, after we moved in we called Bell to disconnect the 2nd phone line. The jack I have in the basement actually has two jacks, one that works and one that is disconnected. Now is it possible to connect the non-working jack to my working phone line? If so, can someone quickly outline the steps I need to take? (Like either call Bell to do it, or can I do it myself?) • Does Teksavvy offer the service of a technician coming to my home to run a direct line from the demarc to my computer room? If not, does Bell offer this service? How much does it cost? • Is there a trial service to see if I would get good speed with DSL with Teksavvy? I know that the internet service is on a monthly basis, but the modem purchase part is what I am a little concerned about. So would it be possible to say buy the modem to use the service and refund within the month if I don't get satisfactory speeds?
Thank you for your help. I look forward to leaving Rogers when I get the chance |

In general, you want to keep the wiring as clean as possible, I believe this will add unnecessary noise to the line...

do it yourself 101, pretty simple wiring, just copy the existing jack, IE: if you're on a 2-pair system(4 wires, usually yellow, black, red, green) make sure it's the red and green wires connected...it'll take about 10 mins to do, as I said just copy the working jack and you shouldn't have any issues..

No, unfortunately TekSavvy does not have any field techs, and last I checked Bell charged $80-100 for this kind of a service call, however I believe Bell will install 3 jacks for free, not sure, you can give them a call and find out for certain...

Unfortunately not, right now the only trial phase currently being offered is for users with another ISP (DSL) who wish to try out TekSavvy's network.... |
