| Question For Teksavvy guys
These two questions are aimed at the Teksavvy guys:
- I have the Pier1 DSL login + static IP and wanted to know is my bandwidth for binary newsgroups part of my 100GB cap? I didn't want to start downloading and find out newsgroups were capped at 5GB and start getting charged per Gig, lol. rbdwarf already kindly answered this in another part of the forum but I just wanted confirmation.
- When I completely switch to Teksavvy from Execulink is it better to overlap the services for a few days or is it better to let my DSL get disconnected totally and to wait a few days before setting up with Teksavvy? The reason that I ask is right now I am on interleaved and a fairly slow profile of 1728/384. Is there any chance things will improve when I switch to you or will the quality remain the same because we are all using Bell lines ?
Thanks for your time folks. So far I am ecstatic about your service |

You need to find out what Execulink's cancellation policy is first. Once you know move on from there. What we need is 5 business days to "take over" your line card. You need to cancel from Execulink for the same day you activate with us. For example, if you can cancel immediately, you should cancel for Monday March 5, 2007 and request an activation date from us for the same day. We'll co-ordinate the disconnect and connect orders through our Bell rep to try and prevent and disconnect from happening at all. Usually this is not a problem, especially when going from one wholesale ISP to another. We can not comment on the speed or quality of your connection until we see some line stats. Typically what your getting now is what you'll be getting with us, that's not always the case though.
Thank you, Steve |

| reply to GoldenDawg Thanks Steve for the reply but please also respond to my first question about newsgroup bandwidth cap.
As for my second question I guess I did not express myself well. Since my profile is fairly slow at 1728/384 and on interleaved is there any advantage to letting my DSL get completely disconnected for a few days in the hopes that when I get reconnected my connection quality will be better?
I had several tickets opened in the past through Golden Triangle/Execulink but nothing ever got resolved and they never gave me info about the results of the ticket. In fact it seemed like the tech guys at Execulink were avoiding giving me information about the source of the problem.
Is it better to let myself get completely disconnected or is it better for me to just let you guys open a ticket and fight it out with Bell? |

| You would be better off remaining connected.
In fact, you should plan to make use of the overlap.
For instance, you call your old ISP on march 1. You subscribe to Teksavvy on Feb 28. (cancel the old one only once you make sure Teksavvy has accepted you and processed your credit card etc).
Then, you have roughly 5 days where you can login to either account via PPPoE to compare. From the Teksavvy side, unless things have changed, as soon as they have received your payment, they can activate the service from their own servers' point of view (PPPoE login, mail, POP etc).
As soon as your account is created with them, they then have your phone number and should be able to look at your line stats and give you the time of day.
Once Bell has updated your DSL service to bill Teksavvy for it, (5 business days or whatever), then Teksavvy can make requests to Bell for profile changes to your DSL service, if it is felt your line can handle faster speeds.
If your distance to the CO is very short, and your line "should" be able to support much higher speeds but doesn't, then perhaps some requests can be made to look at the issue of cabling etc. But for this, you will probably be required to try a different modem, and connect directly to the NID (where Bell's responsability ends (usually a box outside on your house). |

I suspected that what you and Steve said is the better way to go but part of me was wishing for a magical way to get better than a 1.5 meg profile, lol.
All I need is 100% confirmation from a Teksavvy person about the Peer1 newsgroup bandwidth cap and all my questions have been answered. |

In case you don't get one. In the past, when Teksavvy used the Giganews service there was supposed to be a 5Gig limit. But I am not sure if it was actually implemented. There were many times when the prepaid account Teksavvy had with giganews would run out of money mid-month and Teksavvy had to put more coins into the coin-ooperated service to buy more service from them.
They have since switched to usenetserver.com and I am not sure if there are still limits.
And my guess is that Teksavvy wouldn't really want to shout out loud that it has no limits in case they need to switch NNTP provider to one that does have limits.
If you download medical images and videos depicting female anatomy, and videos depictic thoracic area changes during breathing cycles, would this really exceed 5 gigs per month? |

What Steve said in that referenced post was: quote: We go through a company called UsenetServer.com Here are the restrictions set in place: [...] no specific cap on download or upload [...]
