Re: WRTP54G-ER JTAG Unlock using windows

I guess something is wrong with erasing memory region /start:b07c0000 /length:00040000.

My device behaves erratically. Sometimes it seems to restart Voice module after I press the pound to finish dialing.

I have upgraded and downgraded to version 3.1.17, 3.1.22 and 3.1.24 several times. I have also done factory resets by software and hardware and nothing. The device continues behaving erratically.

Seems the software link no longer works, is there a working link to the JTAG software?

Also are the PCB layouts for the header the standard 0.100" center to center for the header or something else?

OOPs! It said I violated their TOS???

Well, when they let me out of the slammer (due to the TOS) we'll have to do something about it.
It's probably on the other thread, if you can't wait. Or maybe some one else can post it!!!

Sorry people, the harddive that had that info on it was one that cooked a long time ago. There are several members here that should still have it so Hang in there.

It is possible that I burned it to a CD or copied it to another drive, but it'll be a while before I can begin to look.

I finally have it works.
In general I followed voiplover
»WRTP54G-ER JTAG Unlock using windows

and lambition the steps as below,

»[WRTP54G-ER] How to unlock and re-use this earthlink device.

I'm just add more detailing the steps that worked for me. All credits to those that did the real work.

Soldering is simple, BUT you MUST be VERY careful. If your soldering iron is the old one, clean the iron head with sand paper before do the job. Too much solder will create short circuit.

After soldered the 100 Ohm resistor and the ground line on the circuit board, you should use a magnifying glass to check the up and under side the possible short circuit because the circuit board lines are very tinny, the visual check is necessary.

The step #4, my XP windows directory is c:\WINNT, therefore if your XP windows directory is different from C:\Windows, make your name change in step #4 and #8. e.g. C:/???????/system32/drivers.

The step #8, the path should be "c:/windows/system32/drivers". You do not have to repeat this step again if you completed the step#14. But if have problem in step #10 to #14 and RESTARTED your PC, then you need to do the step #7 and #8 again.

After the step #14, your screen should be shown some block of flash address was erased as following screen shot.
»i10.tinypic.com/66tvpn6.jpg

Then reboot the WRTP54G-ER, go into the Administration/Firmware Update/ to update the new firmware. The firmware should already download before you start this unlock process.

Good luck everyone! My WRTP54G-ER working Super!!

Congratulation on your achievement. Some people have reported this hack causes some problems while others don't seem to encounter any problems at all. So, please kindly report back after a few days you have your device working to see if there is any problems.

Have done about 8 of these so far over the past 3 months, and all are working flawlessly.

I soldered a pinheader onto the motherboard, and put all the resistors inside the cable connector casing, with a female pinheader in the other end.

Hey ahchu.

Can you post link for your wrt54g.exe
Looks like you have the same Flash S29GL064M-... as I am.
And I couldn't find wrt54g that support it.
Or maybe you can upload it somewhere.

Thanks.

I lost the hard drive that I had the original wrt54g.exe that I used. I got it off of bigupload and it was written for the wrtp54g.
I found a file with the same name on another hard drive and hope that it is the same one.

That's good to hear and know.

I soldered a pinheader onto the motherboard, and put all the resistors inside the cable connector casing, with a female pinheader in the other end.
I noticed the pinholes on the JTAG from my Linksys/Vonage WRTP54G are sort of blocked that I wasn't able to clean them using the tip of my soldering gun. I thought they were fake holes. Now that you have mentioned this, I will try to find a very small drill to drill through.

Why do I hear PCB boards crying in my sleep???

No need to do that. Plus you can damage the lands...

Just take a decent 1/2 watt (or larger) resistor and insert it through the back of the board as you heat the resistor with your soldering iron. It should follow the pre drilled hole and melt the solder out of the way. Of course the resistor will lose it's use as a resistor after doing a couple of holes, but so what.
With just a little work, it should give you a nice hole to mount what you desire.

I did that before and it didn't work. I guessed the pin didn't get enough heat to melt the lead. I will try this again.

This is what my cable looks like.

I just used one of these suckers after I melted the solder: »www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/c···=50B-410

It is a little tricky, but if you cannot get it to melt, I added a little new solder (with fluss) to the holes, and that fixed it most of the time. Also, make sure you pause when the PCB gets very hot from the desoldering. Normally you can do about 1/3 of the holes at a time before pausing for cooling.

This is what it looks like when done. The brown stuff on the back is fluss residue from the soldering process.

It's easy to check what flash IC wrt54g support by run it in
"Command Prompt" window without any keys.
It'll give you a list of supported Flash chips.
The one You post here - is generic one because it doesn't have S29GL064M-.. listed.

And from ahchu screenshot looks like he has one we need (with Spansion support).

Ok, I'm finally did unlock mine WRTP54G-ER.

But I was correct about wrt54g.exe - has to have a support for Spansion Flash IC. And I have to compile new wrt54g.
After that everything went flawless.
