| [Chat] A new addition to our family. Team Helix, meet Rockie!

This was Rockie's write up on the Petfinders web site where I found him. ---------- 118951 ROCKIE Yellow Labrador Retriever,Chow Chow Mix
Size: Medium Age: Adult Gender: Male ID: 118951 C1 (Zoe was in Kennel A1 when we adopted her)
Notes: Rockie might be big, but he has more manners than most dogs half his size. Rockie will sit on command; he's extremely calm and gentle and appreciates attention. Rockie was surrendered to the shelter because his owner left Rockie with a friend, and his guardian can no longer take care of him. Rockie is just three years-old, already neutered, and QUIET. You'll usually find Rockie curled up on his blanket; this laid-back fellow deserves a warm place to sleep, and an owner who loves him!
This pet is already house trained. This pet has been altered. ---------- FWIW, Rockie also responds well to "come" and "down" on command as well. We'll soon be finding out what else Zoe and I can teach him, or him us!
And yes, his left ear pretty much stays up like that. Weird huh? I thought it was that way in the pictures because somebody called him or something, but it seems to stay up unless he makes an effort to put it down or back.

I love Labs. THE BEST family dogs, IMO.
We had a female black Lab, when my son was just a baby. He would crawl 'round, and lay on top of Gretchen, (our Labs name), and chew on her ears, etc. She never growled, or even displayed a hint of aggression. When she would "get enough", she would just get up, and walk away. -- F@H console client No alien software needed |

Have ya'll seen this commercial? »www.pedigree.com/dogadoption/commercial.asp
Having just come from the Arlington Animal Service Center and seeing all those dogs and cats needing homes. It's so sad. Especially considering this...
"Stray animals are held for 72 hours, and animals with traceable identification are held for 7 business days, prior to becoming available for adoption or euthanized."
I know, it costs a lot of money to care for these animals. This one center alone receives 11,000 animals annually. I'm certain that is just a drop in the bucket nationally speaking. I just wish I had the answers.
When I win the lottery or the Publishers Clearinghouse sweepstakes , I'll purchase a ranch and adopt as many as I can handle. If my wife won't let me do that then we'd just make a very big contribution to a local facility, but preferably one with a no kill policy. -- What the mind harbors, the body manifests. | reply to nozero Great dog. We rescued a pupply, what, like a year ago that was stuck under the house here. Some kind of blue hound. Thing is, our dog (or should I say my roomate's) is a bit of a dumbazz, heh. I have never seen such a dumb dog. I guess it is the hound thing.
Are you going to train your pup? Rockie still has a flop ear, showing the signs of a youth. I remember when my 1/2 wolf had ears like that, it is so cute.
Congratulations. -- You know your life has gotten "DICEY" when it turns into an episode of LOST, like my ex wife, who I swear is one of "The Others"... !!!Save Lives: Join Team Discovery AND Team Helix, it is easy and painless to do!!! |

| Not sure he'll need the training like Zoe and I got at Obedience Training from Petsmart. He seems to mind well and is very attentive. I'm thinking he can pick up the stuff he does not know from Zoe through observance. -- What the mind harbors, the body manifests. Every moment is another chance to turn it all around. |

1 edit | Zoe so far seems to tolerate him well. She's told him his place a couple of times, but they had fun chasing each other in the back yard. I think it will take some getting used to for all of us. I'm hoping for the best.
-Edit- Oh, and I agree. The ear does give him character. It makes him unique, just like everybody else. My mom used to tell me that...
