If I understand this correctly it is saying that I downloaded Macromedia Studio on 10 Mar 2007 18:13:52 GMT to my IP address of 71.230.26.XXX from a BitTorrent sight of
»tk2.greedland.net:80/announce? Is that right?
1.)The issue is I don't have any BitTorrent software nor do I do any file swapping.
2.) If I ever had an IP address of a 71.xxx.xxx.xxx It was a
long time ago. I currently have an IP address in the 24.xxx.xxx.xxx and have had it for over 6 months and looking back threw line test I can't find a 71.xxx.xxx.xxx ip address listed.
3.) Google and Yahoo don't show any web sights for »tk2.greedland.net:80/announce or »www.greedland.net:80/announce?
As I said I'm lost as to what to do or if I needed to do anything.

| Re: Notice of Action under the Digital Millennium Copyright Normally if you get those and you are doing something illicit, it's usually best to stop. Since you aren't actually doing something wrong, it may be worth sending a note to abuse or support saying they're mistaken. Either way, they generally don't come after you until you have multiple strikes against you, and even then, you weren't doing anything wrong in the first place.
I received one of those a few years ago when my ex-roommate was downloading/serving TV shows. That stopped quickly.

If it was showing my IP address that I have had for at least the last 6 months then that would make sense that someone used my wireless. | |

Your answer is looking more like the winner. I finally knock some rust of the brain and did a tracert on both IPs from my house. One goes to me on the west coast the other goes over to the Philly area on the east coast. See below. Comcast out of Denver show the 2 IPs assigned to me and the mac address on the 71 which goes to the east coast is assigned by Netgear. I had no luck talking to Netgear to see if they could tell me if it was a wireless or hard wired device for that Mac.

Any facts after that is like talking to the FBI, CIA or Secret Service. Can't blame them it's there house and they know I post here.
So I will be installing a new modem. I would like to say good bye to my trusty partner of what seems like 5 years my 4200 will be retired with in 24 hours. I would ask what to replace it with but I think that is like asking what coffee taste best. I guess I will become a $3 a month paying member to the Comcast lease fund. I hope to swing by the local office and get a never out of the box replacement. That is the rumor on how to get one.
I would like to say that my lag times have never been better and with a new modem maybe I will see the boosting that everyone is posting about. But the bottom line is as long as my Vonage will still work great, I will be happy. (That is until Verizon and Sprint shut them down.) Have a great weekend  , and thanks for the support! And always keep track of your IP address and what your first six hops are from your modem! | |

| By all means inform Comcast that it is not your IP and ask them to furnish a record of all IP's assigned to your account in, say, the last year.
Send them an email which will help to confirm that the IP is wrong, and follow up with a letter by certified mail. | |

I did e-mail back with my IP address and statement about how long I have had it. Comcast e-mail support has not given out the information's on how long I have had this IP. They keep sending my the "This is how you find your IP address in the following OS". I guess I should let it go but I feel violated and wrongly warned about something I didn't do. If it was my IP I would say ok someone is on my wireless or my 9 year old is setting up her own web sight. I would think that if she could only remember her password. | |

| Re: Notice of Action under the Digital Millennium Copyright I doubt that you will get any reasonable response from Comcast support. You need to get the attention of the group that linked you with the wrong IP, as well as get on record about their error.
The person who did the download does not know that he has been caught. If he continues, you could wake up one day to a lawsuit, and that is pretty far down the road to be trying to fix a mistake. | |

I guess I will print out everything I can and mail to comcast and keep a file for my self. This seem to be like sitting on the runway for 9 hours and having no rights.
I guess other then that I will wait for comcast abuse to e-mail back some year. | |

| Just to add little to the bit torrent thing, I don't think whoever is checking on them torrents checks to see if your downloading the copyrighted work, I've downloaded mods from torrents that had the full game and got a warning letter.
I also recall something close to this being posted on /. awhile back, someone setup a fake client that just connected to the torrent but didn't send or receive any data, and they too got warning letters from their ISP.

They don't want to be the entertainment industries police, they don't really care what you're downloading beyond the liability it presents to them and the load it places on their network. So DMCA notices and the issues surrounding them are likely low on the list of priorities.

| Re: Notice of Action under the Digital Millennium Copyright I called the billing dept today to see if I am being charged for 2 modem or IPs. I'm not! So how did Comcast allow 2 IPs to be assigned at the same time to me when I didn't ask for or am I paying for it.
There is some cracks in their security or they have a data base that is really messed up!
Denver doesn't understand and wants me to find time to do the on-line thing and maybe the DMC people will have some answers on Friday. I think I will get a new modem this weekend but I was really hoping to hold out until we made the jump to 3.0. | |
