Re: So what? said by Loker:if more people will be reaching it then in theory since Comcast's cap evolves unlike a set cap it will react and go up allowing people to download more... This will only happen IF Comcast upgrades the rest of the network to handle the speeds. If they can't handle the few bandwidth hogs they have now, why even up the speeds if the network can't handle the traffic? |

Why do you feel that Comcast should be in the business of handling "a few" bandwidth hogs? That's somewhat like saying that in some rural town, population 100..they should put an interstate highway in because 10 people want to go faster than they can now on the dirt roads that are presently there.
It would seem to me to be a much smarter business decision to say to those few "hogs" (and really, i hate that word).. we just can't service you today. It's not what we do..nor are we setup for that.
You know, I don't go to my local grocery store expecting to buy a sofa. It's not what they do.
And, what Comcast doesn't do is to supply people with 300 gigs of data a month at these speeds..for 42 bucks a month.
It seems pretty simple to me.
As for why have the speeds..PLENTY of people download a whole lot less than those numbers, but still would like to have these speeds for when they do. I'm all the time downloading files and updates for customers machines and powerboost is the greatest thing since sliced bread for that. It also helps the larger downloads as well by giving someone a very good high speed head start on a large file.
I, nor many people though, ever come close to going through 10 to 40 gigs a month, never mind 200 to 300.
Again..these people are NOT "Hogs"..they're VERY heavy users in my book. But, they need a very heavy usage account then. And, if comcast can't be it..look elsewhere.
Don't try to make Comcast be it.
Or, once again, an idea i really think could work for many..get a dsl connection too and split things up between them. It's only 20 or 25 more per month we're talking about here. I'd be glad to pay that if i was in the 300gig a month camp.

 | reply to Rick Hey listen I'm not in total disagreement with you. My issue with Comcast is not about the heavy downloading, it really isn't. It's the lying they do and they know that they do. If I had done more research instead of taking this rep's word when I questioned her about comcast's bandwidth cap limit where she lied to me, I would have NEVER gotten comcast in the first place.
Believe me, I had Cox Communications for 7 years and they have a cap and if you do go over it? They throttle you which is fine by me to be very honest. I really don't care. My issue with Comcast is the lying and how they hate publicity like this and are quick to try to silence those for telling their story. Trust me on this. I have Verizon DSL and even though the speed is only 3 megs, hell man I can download, webcam video conference with whomever whenever I want without worry about going over some pathetic unknown cap to me which this company creates and changes the rules as they go along. This is why I'm angry and hate them. Whenever Brian Roberts speaks and brags about his company's offerings and how great it is, it makes me sick of what a blowhard liar he is and he himself knows that Comcast's network can't handle the ever growing amount of users and the vast media content that is being added on the net.
This is going to continue to be a problem for this company. It's not going away and this is why I think Comcast has fought so hard to try to keep fiber out of the town i live in because they know they can't compete once it's here. |

All I have said on this subject is say how much is too much.
Every single commercial touts how "fast" the service is. You can download songs, do video mail, video chats, etc. However, they never say you have a limit or that too much will get you kicked off the network.
Now, Comcast is in the business to get more market share. BUT, are they going to be another AOL when they offered their "unlimited" package? Oversold nodes are not what they want. Comcast needs to make sure that if they get all the people they want signed on, then need the capacity to have many of them on (like 6pm to 9pm.)

 | Not sure if anyone reads the stock reports but comcast is using its profit and announced that it was using $800 million to upgrade its networks even further. So i believe they will be expanding bandwidth. theyd have to since they are selling their Digital Voice services in so many areas now. |
