| [Connectivity] Account Suspended?
Since yesterday, both the receive and send lights on my modem have been blinking. I called today, and they said my account have been suspended and that I should call (856) 324-2025. However, I only got an answering machine.
Does anyone know what the problem is or what that number is for? |

BTW, the usual reason to contact them at this number is because you have been downloading too much and have hit Comcast's invisible cap.

I had the same thing happen to me.
Unfortunately, this is now the third day of no connection and I've yet to hear a single thing back from any of the many voice-mails or abuse@comcast.net e-mails I've left.
Which is particularly fun as a couple of us work at home.

Fortunately, and I'm convinced it's because of this place, but ten minutes after the last post, I got a call back at last.
Too much bandwidth, as I suspected. And the man advised getting a more substantial account to handle the eight students/etc. living at this house, while giving us the usual four-week window to cut things down.

They once offered "unlimited" connectivity; but that was back when DSL was so new that most people didn't have it, and dial connections were typically limited to 'X' hours per month for a flat fee, and then $Y per minute for time over the limit.

yeah, its usually pretty easy to track down peoples accounts when they anonymously post on the internet!
I know abuse goes over and over and every screams their favortie buzzword "UNLIMITED" although no Comcast advertising or specs say "Unlimited" anything.. but when capacity reports come out they are structured by subscriber penetration and average bandwidth use.
I can look through 100 nodes and the average bandwidth used is anywhere from 40-50gb.
When you look down the chart suddenly you see

40gb
52gb
49gb
172gb
42gb
39gb
etc.
You look up that node and see that out of the 168 people on the node ONE or a FEW people are hitting 500-600gb a month. I would think you really have to be one of the top bandwidth users as stated in previous posts to get a call. If you are above the areas average you really stand out.
This might not help anyone and only spark more "frustration" and Im not even sure if this is how things are determined but these are things that I see daily.
The last thing you want to do is put in a purchase request for a new router or node segmentation to accommodate 5 people out of 200 who, in all likelyhood, are violating their TOS. Unless Comcast starts actively monitoring CONTENT this "invisible cap" b.s. is the cleanest least confrontational and non evasive way to say "wtf?"
Because as stated before, reaching 200-600gb a month without violating your TOS is pretty dam hard to do. And if you are legitamtely hitting those numbers you probably are doing something that would more then likely be classified as a business account.
Just my .02. Rip me apart as usual!

so funny to hear people complaining about using WAY to much bandwidth. There isnt ANY reason for it. Check your HDD and I bet we find a ton of movies you didnt pay for not to mention the loads of .mp3 files was well...
Again, there is NO reason for a home user to be sucking up over 400gb of data...get real. Your the reason why the RIAA and the movie crownies are after everyone.. |
