Why do people even bother with Verizon email...

While sure, Verizon's email should always work, I don't know why people would bother. With great free-mail services (not to mention cheap 3rd party mail services) around why bother with an ISP's weak offerings?

The added benefit is not having to change your email addy if you change providers.

I haven't used an ISP's email service since Netcom.

Totally agree.

It seems that most ISPs just don't care enough about email to satisfy the "serious" user.

I love my BellSouth FastAccess connection, but I finally dropped their email and went to a 3rd party supplier. Haven't had a single problem since.

No port blocking, no lost emails, works from everywhere (hotels, airports, etc). Why anyone who depends on email would stick to their ISP- Verizon or BellSouth, as mentioned here, is beyond me. Especially when reliable email service is either free or very inexpensive- about $11.00 with my own domain that I can take with me, if necessary.
