1 edit | reply to LBDSL Just a quick review, as I need to get back to work
Even though iTunes will take awhile to sync everything, the AppleTV still allows you to watch/listen to everything, it just streams it, flawlessly.
Watching Movie trailers via the web, is perfect. Things are all wireless right now, so while it is coping data from an iMac, it still loaded a trailer from the web within 2 seconds.
TV shows from iTunes, are viewable on the 61" HDTV, but as we all know, not HD quality, but still very viewable.
One question before, was the screen size, can it be changed to 4:3, verses 16:9, I didn't see any settings for that, just resolution settings (480p, 720p, 1080i)
I'll report more in the next day or so.
EDIT: Also, just because you can play video's/movies in iTunes, does NOT mean AppleTV will play it. Many ripped DVD's are not showing up in Apple TV, but play fine within iTunes. Some are working ok, so there must be some setting, when I ripped them, which are different. -- Lightning Bolt Technologies |

| reply to LBDSL Very cool.
I'm still trying to understand what it needs the hard drive for, and how it determines what subset of files in the designated master computer's iTunes Library it is going to copy over.
If it is copying from an 802.11n machine, I'd be curious to see what iStat Pro or some other I/O monitor showed as the throughput rate.
And of course, we should all anticipate Kodawarisan getting theirs and disassembling it. |

| reply to LBDSL Yeah, I read there is no Divx support in AppleTV which is a deal killer for me. I'm going to end up just picking up a refurb Core Solo Mini from the Apple Store. it's more expensive but way more flexible in playing video. -- There's only 10 types of people in this world. | reply to Johnny It's simply the living room version of a video ipod. So, just as with your ipod, you have to let iTunes on the master computer which files you want to have synced with it.
I suppose this will most likely happen best using a smart playlist that includes video files etc.
In terms of the device not playing some rips, there are several "profiles" of the AVC (h.264) codec, each of which calls for a resolution, fps, bitrate range, and a myriad of features of the encoder itself, that can be used with iTv. Some profiles will work, whereas others won't. Some will be simply too much for it to handle I suppose. |

join:2001-07-30 Las Vegas, NV | reply to LBDSL How hard is it to set it up with a password protected wireless network? I've got a pretty long and involved password and plan on keeping it.. -- -The Dude. |

| Once it finds a wireless network, which is protected, it gives you a screen to scroll and select each character of the password. it is much slower then typing on a QWERTY keyboard.
The 1 thing I do not know, is if it remembers that password after a power cycle.
My unit is getting swapped out tonight at a local Apple store, because after a change on my airport express, the apple TV will not connect wirelessly any more
I spent 45 minutes with applecare, and the final solution was to swap it out. so we will see what happened tonight. -- Lightning Bolt Technologies |

1 edit | I changed the WPA2 password, and since that, including removing all security, the AppleTV won't connect via wireless, it works just fine with Ethernet, however I don't have an Ethernet cable run to the TV area yet. -- Lightning Bolt Technologies |

Saw the display on the way home at the Southlake Store. After the usual ripping by the Apple employees about a certain company passing on the iPhone I decided to ask if they had any in stock. 2 left.
Or should I say 1 left. -- Mac Chatter »www.macchatter.net |
