Seems like a no brainer to go over to satellite, am I missing something here? If you don't mind the uglyass antenna and owning your own equipment and all the downsides to that then, no. |

| reply to insomniac I spoke to comcast today.
1. No schedule for area (suburb) but will happen by end of 2007. 2. One new "mini" set top box is available, but otherwise just current technology. 3. Each area will get two months notice on change 4. Additional boxes are "digital outlets" $5.99 per month
Looking at my set up, I am one of the few extended basic people and pay about $70 per month with a digital box, and HD/DVR digital Box.

| reply to CableTool I'll admit that I haven't read this entire thread, but one question:
In areas where analog expanded basic is being removed, are letters being sent to all customers on the headend, or just those who have no equipment listed on the account? I have a CableCARD for my HD set, but I also have an analog TiVo plugged straight into the line and another NTSC TV in my bedroom. I know I'd certainly like a paper notification when analog goes away in my area.
Thanks. -- If everything seems to be going well, you've obviously overlooked something. |

| reply to dcdowden said by dcdowden :I just noticed that I am now receiving DTV directly from the cable in Naperville, Illinois including the HD versions of the Chicago broadcast stations. I have had an HD set (with QAM tuner) for over about a year now, but we have never received HD signals without using the Comcast box (3412). Will this be the new basic service including all DTV broadcast channels? We also receive all the expanded basic channels over the cable as well, but I believe they are still analog. Doug Broadcast HD channels have been available for a while through the QAM tuner. |

I just got a DCT-700 for my analog TV (I have 3416 for my HDTV). I asked if the box had s-video. "Of course it does!" And of course it doesn't.
Is there another simple set top box Comcast offers that has s-video out? No not at this time. We'll have to wait and see after June 1st if the new Motorola DCH series set top boxes will offer this feature.
Quite possibly a DCT-2500 series box might have it, but it was a factory installed option, so no definite. A lot of area's are only leasing DCT-700's now and have extinguished their inventory of DCT-2000's and 2500's. |

said by ndurkin :I have a question that I don't think has been answered: Will the digital box being provided by Comcast be dual tuner? I will not be pleased if I cannot watch live TV while my Tivo is recording something. Short answer... No. Rent a dual-tuner DVR.

1 edit | reply to celeritypc said by celeritypc :That's the thing. If you have a newer tv with a QAM tuner, you will pick up any unencrypted digital channel, no box required. On my system, all expanded basic channels are unencrypted along with HD versions of OTA channels. Any expanded basic channel that has been removed from analog is still available on a QAM-enabled digital tv. Hey, thanks for the info and opening my eyes up a bit.
This QAM tuner option is starting to make sense to me. I picked up a Comcast Channel Lineup for my area and see there are several chnnels in the digital area that are marked as Limited Basic including some over the air HD channels. |
