DHL -Austin Hub - something is up

So I've been having trouble with my DHL driver. Normally its just him showing up after 5pm with packages sent "overnight-by-3pm". But this week has been different.

First it was 12 Dell LCDs that were due by 3pm on Monday. When they hadn't shown up by 4pm, I called the hub. They said they'd talked to the driver, and I was his next stop. I was told the same thing when I called at 5pm, and again at 6pm. At 6:30 I checked the tracking, and it showed "delivered 2:58pm left at door"
I called the hub again, and the lady said they were in fact in their re-deliver cage, with no explanation as to why. She also couldn't explain how I'd talked to them 3 times that afternoon about the delivery being late, despite the tracking showing it made it there by 3. They finally made it to me Tuesday, at 4:30pm.

On Wed, I was expecting a quad core CPU, a couple motherboards, cases, water cooling kits, and ram. Roughly $3,000 worth of stuff. I checked the tracking at noon, and it showed "delivered 11:36am" "signature myrealnameommited"
I had been home all day waiting for it. I called the hub in a panic, they said the driver must have delivered to the wrong address, and they would send him out to get it and bring it to me. 10 minutes later the driver showed up with the packages. I asked him where he had delivered them, and he said it must be a screw up in the system, they'd been in his truck since he left the hub that morning. I never signed anything for the delivery.

This morning I ran the tracking numbers again and pulled up the signature image. (not available until the day after delivery) Sure enough, the signature said myrealnameomitted - hand written, and obviously not by me. So I printed it out, as well as several previous tracking number signatures I had actually signed. Looking at them all, it was VERY obvious this one was a forgery. I also printed out every tracking number from the past month (47 in all) to show that Wednesday's delivery, which oddly enough was the only one I'd received NOT marked for delivery by 3, was in fact the ONLY delivery the driver had gotten there before 3.

I took all of this to the Austin hub, mostly with the intention of making someone aware of the problem. The late deliveries were annoying, but the forged signature had me concerned. What would have happened if I hadn't caught it right away? What if it had been 3 or 4 days later before I had realized the packages never arrived? DHL had my signature on the delivery, even though it wasn't actually mine. How would I file for a loss given this, other than hiring a handwriting expert?

When I got to the hub and asked to see a manager, the lady asked me if it was about a certain tracking number. When I told her it was more of a general driver issue, she quickly ran into the back and grabbed the manager. I explained everything, the late packages, the "delivery" that didn't actually get delivered until the next day, as well as the forged signature. Once we had established that I had in fact received all of the packages I was expecting, and that none were missing, he handed me an Austin Police Department Detectives card, and asked me to call and report what I'd just told him. He had a stack of these cards, rubber banded together in his pocket. He offered no further explanation, just apologized for the inconvenience and thanked me for coming in.

I tried to call the detective from my cell phone on the drive home, but I got his voicemail. Left a short message with my name, number, and what it was about.

At 5:15pm, today's "overnight by 3" deliveries showed up, same driver. He handed them to me, didn't ask for a signature (even though they had signature required on them) and then left. The tracking numbers now show "Delivered 2:18pm Left at Door"

As of now (7pm) I have not heard back from the detective. No idea what is going on, but with the manager having a stack of the detectives cards, I suspect they know SOMETHING funny is going on. Yet this driver is still delivering.

ouch. that sucks. Hopefully the detective calls you back tomorrow. This sounds way to bizarre for him not to call you back.

I never use DHL, they are by far the worse, they have lost and/or damaged way to much for me.
Their drivers are not employees, but contractors.
Their vehicles are not company owned and insured, but driver owned and "insured".
DHL was great before they bought Airborne, after that it was a fast ride to the toilet, probably because Airborne was an awful company.

The same can be said for some UPS routes, I'm not sure about FedEx.

Yes, FedEx uses contractors, too. One FE driver ran off our driveway, got stuck, tore up our yard being towed out. Corporate FE said it was local contractor problem, local never did anything to repair.
I've never had a problem with UPS.

Guess it just depends on what you get on that day.

I'd be asking for the manager's district manager's phone number. Handing you a detective's card when nothing has been stolen has got nothing to do with the Austin PD.

IMO, until things because fraudulent (signed for packages never delivered) or things are broken into, APD won't do a thing.
