 Believe it or not.

Here's my experience with PSN, nothing too bad beside that when I want to call them, 50% time line's busy, and when line's not busy, I get 20 minutes wait time on average. Then again, I'm not the one who pay for those long distance call beside wasting my own time. Anyway. I ordered my DSL through PSN on 5/20. On 5/23, I found out about this site. After reading the posts about PSN I was worried that I'll wait for half year to get nothing. I contacted them couple of times between 5/23 and 6/15, the people from PSN told me the wait time is about 4 weeks and wanted me to call them back after that. To my surprise, I received a letter from psn indicate that Bell Atlantic will stop by my house to test DSL line on 6/20. Since my outside box is pretty visible, I didn't stay home and wait. On 6/23, I received another email that says Northpoint will install my line on 6/27, but didn't mention morning or afternoon. Once I got home, I heard a message from answer machine. The guy from NP said the appointment is between 5 to 8pm and if it's not a good time, call them back to reschedule it. Of course, since I want DSL so bad, I didn't call them to reschedule it. Today(6/27), I got a call from the installation guy Tony(no relation to the one from PSN that a lot people mentioned here), wonder if the appointment is still OK. I said "sure, and if you want, you can stop by my house now". That was around 12:30. So he said he'll be there by 1:30p. I got home, and he arrived right on time. He pulled a new cat5 wire to connect outside phone box to the DSL modem(the line was just following the corner of floor and wall. oh well). Then he called someone to activate the DSL signal. I assume it's PSN, or could be NP. The whole installation was finished by 2:40pm. My Windows 2000 machine is up and on the net in no time. After he left, I came to DSLReports to test the speed, unfortunately I only got 180/400. That's pretty weird. So I switched to my Win95 machine and got almost same result. I tested few times and result was from 140 to 190 down, and 350 to 410 up. I followed the instruction on the tweeks page, used HUGE registry setting. Now my win95 runs average of 370/370. The service I suppose to get is up to 416. Oh well, I'm a happy guy and just glad to get this thing up and running.

The story that I presented here is just for your information only. I do not endorse PSN nor against PSN. I know people had bad experience and I feel sorry. May be I'm just a lucky guy that got DSL up and running in 5 weeks. Or may be the services is better in Maryland area. Who knows. I do not know how long this fast speed connection will be up and running. May be bad experience for me is yet to come, but for now, I have no problem with PSN beside their busy phone lines.

Later this week I'll call them for the rebate for modem and installation. I thought the installation guy suppose to give me a rebate card or something, but he said to contact PSN for that. Did I get screwed here?. I hope I'll get my money back soon.

If you want to get more information, contact me directly via email. Please, no spams or flames.
