[northeast] Actiontec MI424WR router log WW

I am trying change the routers default IP address to a computer running WallWatcher in order for it to log inbound and outbound traffic. I cannot find in the Actiontec MI424WR gui interface where the IP address can be changed. I spoke to a tech at Actiontec and he told me that the interface doesn’t have the ability to log outside the router itself. He said there is no way to change the IP address to send the logs to a computer. WallWatcher lists the Actiontec MI424WR as being tested and supported. I contacted WallWatcher support and they told me as far as they know wallwatcher works with the router. Can anyone confirm that the router works with WallWatcher by giving me details on how I can have the router log to a computer running WW.

Did you advise WallWatcher that your router is not running generic firmware and provide them the version of the firmware for compatibility?

No I did not provide them with firmware version. From your question (comment) I should do that, due to the fact that the firmware version was written for Verizon. It seemed to me when I spoke to the Actiontec support person he did not question what firmware I was using. He spoke in generic terms that the router never supported loging to another computer. I will inform WW that the version number is 4.0.16.1.45.160, a Verizon firmware.

Thanks for your comments

At least two people using the MI424WR with firmware version 4.0.16.1.45.120 also are on Verizon, and both of those routers are sending their log records to the LAN computer that's running WallWatcher.

As of the moment this reply was posted, Cyberlord's router is also sending log records to his computer, but it's only sending "information" messages, and is not reporting "traffic" events.

His router settings seem to be the same as the ones on the other two routers.

i've been trying too. I can't find any logging information in the Actiontec interface, i.e. "send logs to IP.."

So I think I figured this out. I don't have time right now to attach pics, but may post tonight.

1)From the main Actiontec admin screen, select the 'Advanced' tab at the top.
2)About half way down under System Logging select the option for Remote System Notify Level. I set mine to Information for now, will scale back later. When you do that an entry field for an IP address appears.
3)Enter your WW IP and you are off.
4)Right under the System Logging area is the Security Logging. Repeat steps 2 + 3 for the security logs
5) Now go to the 'Security Log' under the 'Firewall Settings' tab and select the settings. From here you can tell the Actiontec to log all incoming and outgoing connections.

That should do it. Why did they have to make this difficult? My old Linksys routers just had one option for this.

Your solution worked! What I failed to do is go to Firewall settings and check both log incoming and outgoing connections. Who would of figured that after entering the WW IP address you would have to go to Firewall settings and turn it on. I agree Linksys routers are easier to deal with. Thanks for your help, you helped me big time.
