I have 5Mbps Residential Pro and this is complete BS on part of CableONE. The only other viable internet connection here in town is AT&T DSL which currently operates at 6Mbps with no bandwidth thresholds attached and they are $35 a month with free hardware.

Screw you CableONE.
Amen to that.

It's amazing how quickly you hit the magic number too. Just a little light downloading, some gaming, media streaming, photo uploading... then boom, you're capped.

It's a shame that all other aspects of this ISP are fine in our area: decent customer service, always get advertised speeds (minus threshold caps), and decent TV service. But now, my opinion has done a near 180.

Keep sending the form messages, Folks.

dang thats worse then some the the euro isps put on their users. Glad bellsouth/at&t haset started a lame cap you use up tons of your bw with youtube then your limited to slower speeds. Should get tons of people to email and call in asking for price cuts everytime their speeds get limited because you arent getting what you pay for.

There are no decent alternatives in our area. They ARE the cable company. Qwest DSL in this area is slow and not really an option (at least in our part of town).

Holy cow. We are so lucky here in the NYC Metro Area to have Optimum Online. But if they ever pulled off a stunt like this at least theres other choices like FIOS and DSL. What are the alternatives in Cableone territory?

Bet if you call to complain using voip you'd be in danger hitting your cap streaming their hold music to your phone....

If Cableone keeps following this trend, they will eventually be bought out. =/ That's what I think.

Their old cap system was actually "fair": hit the threshold mark in two hours of use, then you where only capped for two hours. After this, you where back up to speed.

I still suggest everyone contact their local office.

yep... They hit me with it today. I'm on the 4megabit connection and i did the math. If you max out your bandwidth for 1 hour during the day, the cut your bandwidth in half until midnight. So that means that I am paying 50 bucks a month.. for 1.5 - 2 megabit service that is advertised for 29 dollars on their website. I am dropping them as my ISP tomorrow.

This is a significant downfall for CableOne.

I suggest sending comments to your local office via the form at »cableone.net/contact/LocalSystem.asp (sign in w/ your zip code first at »cableone.net ). It can't hurt.

This form SHOULD go strait to your offices' Internet Biz Manager. My message did, anyway.

Ouch.

Luckily, I don't think it will effect us too much (I can't remember the last time I've seen any caps), but defiantly a move in the wrong direction.

So who else has seen the new bandwidth caps cableone has implemented? I'm not sure how recent it started, but it was sometime this month.

»cableone.net/internet/threshold_limits.htm

Now during the 12 hour period of 12 noon to midnight you are given a very small amount of bandwidth to accomodate you for the day. Then at night there are no caps.

I did the math (roughly) and to hit the limit if you kept a sustained 32kB/s download, or 0.83 kB/s upload going for the 12 hours, you would hit the limit. (for my 3000/300 plan)

For most people this is acceptable, but between downloading game demos, patches, uploading videos to youtube, pictures, etc etc, this is just unacceptable for me. I think I'm going to switch to an ISP where I can use a high sustained rate of bandwidth.
