Military Forum

As most Vets know there are hundreds of individual veteran websites out there, but none of them offer the opportunities as does DSL.

What would be offered on the Military forum....Political issues that are unique to Veterans and don't fit in either the red or blue rooms.

Other topics and links covered would be like the following...

"TRICARE, Military Health Care"
"Where to find your State & Local Veteran Service Officers"
"Where to Find a Lawyer for veteran claims."

"American Legion"
"AMVETS"
"VFW"
"DAV"
"Vietnam Veterans of America"
"VietNow"

"Marine Corp League"
"Purple Heart"
"Paralyzed Veterans of America"
"US Army news"
Updated Info on Concurrent Receipt for Military Retirees

"Korean War Museum & Library, Raantoul IL"
"MOAA -Military Officers Association of America (formerly TROA)."
"Contacting the VA"
"VA Info on Agent Orange- Cancers, Diabetes, Hep C, etc"

" Links to VA Manuals, Rules & Reg's"

"Find Your US Senator Info"
"Find Your Congressman Info"

"Senate Armed Services Committee"

find Email & Contact Info your area news media
Email Your Radio Station
Register to Vote on Internet & Find Issues
How to File for Freedom of Information
Go to Code of Federal Regulations, i.e. Veterans is Title 32...can search & print
List of 1500 Federal Programs & contacts
Archives -National Military Personnel Records Center at St Louis

Fleet Reserve Association
United Services Disabled Retirees
The Retired Enlisted Association
Info on USFSPA for Military Retirees
National Guard Assoc of US

Association of Former Intelligence Officers
Retired Officer Association

American Gulf War Veterans Association
Flying Space Available on Military Planes
Find local & State Govt Contacts & Services
Vet to Vet Links and other Veteran info
THE RETIRED MILITARY ADVOCATE
Native American Web Site
Veteran's Rights in Federal Employment

As you can see, combining all of these links and features for the Vets here along with our families and friends would be a great forum here at DSL Broadband.

The political aspect might not be a good idea. I can see a bunch of people going in there to express their political views about the war or president.

Maybe make the forum like the red/blue room so that you have to a registered member to reply or something like that.

Hopefully the "hey Mod" will work for those issues...
This should NOT be a "bitch" forum, but a purely informational, and "War Story" forum..

When I say political, I am referring more to the entanglements presented by VA denials of claims for Agent Orange, Diabetic claims, and other medical issues that dont fit in with the other forums.

This would be a forum not unlike the Mozilla Firefox forums or software applications, where members ask and receive help or information on specific issues....And bashing, flaming or trolling would not be allowed at all.

And yes, War stories galore....We need a place to tell our stories.

Object.

DSLReports doesn't have to cover every single subject.

They can continue discussing whatever they want on their on sites.

For members here, I don't see anything stopping you from discussing whatever you want in the existing chat forums. If the subjects become a hot topic that has a lot of traffic, that is when a new forum should be considered.

BTW, if you're going to request something from someone, you should address them accordingly ("DSL Broadband", "DSL").

But that is the problem...Most existing websites are tribute sites, not forums nor discussion groups.

BTW, if you're going to request something from someone, you should address them accordingly ("DSL Broadband", "DSL").
I am asking all of the members of DSL Broadband to consider the value of a military forum....I guess I am so used saying DSL to my friends when we talk about this place on the phone or street, we just naturally assume or presume that everyone knows what we are talking about.

This would turn political all to quickly. Hey Mod would not be able to keep up. Look at the need for the Red/Blue rooms. BBR doesn't need to be the catchall for everything.

As a Veteran and long time BBR user.

It would not be a political room at all...Not what we are asking for...It would be a forum for Vets, there families and friends, new Medical tech, Military stories and new weapons tech and links to various VA sources that are now separate.

we think that the Hey Mod tab would only be used for those who insist on haunting our forums anyway, we just don't think it would be a problem.

It might start out with the usual trolls being a problem, but if the mods make it clear it won't be tolerated, that won't remain an issue for long.

Start whatever threads regarding the subject in the existing forums. Nothing is stopping you from doing so. I don't see many threads about these subjects right now by existing members.

A new forum should be created out of necessity, IMO.

*sign* with the knowledge it is not for political fights.

Might be best as a members only forum to keep the trolls down a bit.

I use the word WE as third person, having discussed my idea with others before posting this request.

No DD-214's necessary....Although DD-214"s would be necessary to get VA benefits and the like, but not here.

There wont be any screening...The forum will be open to all members of DSL Broadband...Why would we want to screen anyone...We want people to know what we Vets think and why we deserve the privileges that are offered to us and why certain housing school and living benefits are due us for our service.

I do not know who would Moderate, Presumably one of the current Mods.

And these are the type of articles covered we would like to see....They would be hard to diccuss in other forums.

IMO it would start out good, then deteriorate into a political forum regarding government policy rather quickly.

Please explain. Others feel it is needed and won't be out of place....certainly no more than other non technical forums here.
