2 edits | Re: [Line Problem] Losing Synch During Thunderstorms said by DaveO :My Westell 6100 DSL modem seems to lose synch on almost every lightning strike. It re-synchs a few seconds later. Is there a way to prevent this? Thanks. I had this problem with my Westell 6100 as well; tried updating firmware, had a tech inspect line, ground, and I have a home run to the line. It still happens. That is, until I replaced it with an old 2 Wire Homeportal 1100. I tried another Westell 6100, and it had the same affect. My guess is that there's something going on triggering the ADSL2+ part of the modem that triggers the modem to lose sync. Anyways, after I changed out my modem with that old 2 Wire, I haven't lost sync due to a storm since.
Though regardless of that, I'd have a tech inspect your line at first. Marginal lines can be really prone to sync loss due to EMI/RFI interference, which lightning produces.
However, I'd test at the NID FIRST before calling a tech.
