Doing a piece for the front page that will compare major provider prices and speeds. Will also touch briefly on advertised speeds versus what your bills actually are, bundles, etc.
Please let me know if these speeds and bundle discounts are currently correct for new customers:
•Qwest Choice : 256kbps/256kbps : $31.99•Qwest Choice Deluxe: 1.5Mbps/896kbps : $44.99•Qwest Choice Premier: 7Mbps/896kbps : $54.99
Bundle 1 service, save $5, two, $10, three $15, four $37
Questions:•What is the price of their 1.5Mbps/1Mbps VDSL service in Phoenix and Denver?•Is Qwest still offering their DSL for life deal, and for how much?•The $13 off deal on their website for Deluxe & Premier -- how long have those been in effect, and do they change significantly?•For those who get unbundled DSL, how drastically different is your final bill from the advertised price? |

| The prices you listed are "worst case scenario" base prices without qualifying phone service or contract, but appear to be correct.

The price for life deal is still on. They first started advertising it in August; the prices have been the same since. The $13/$15 off deal was part of that. It's unlikely to soon change significantly. |

I think Qwest's marketing of Premier with the "up to" caveat leads to disappointment for customers.
There should be some incentive for Qwest to really make 7Mbps more available by pricing 3Mbps/5Mbps at a lesser price than actual 7Mbps, or else why should Qwest bother to invest in the network to support 7Mbps? |

There is also a 3Mbps/640kbps tier for those who cannot get the 7Mbps/896kbps. Is it not the same price as the 7Mbps/896kbps? christcorp mentions it all the time (how both speeds cost the same). |

Along with Q2 promotions. But the DSL offers are carrying over. The "promo/Price for life" rates are $13 off the soon to be Silver/Platinum tiers. |

Yep- sign for a 2 year contract, and you keep the promo price for "life". Without reading the contract details, I imagine you'd have to keep your POTS line too.
For VDSL the 256k is symmetrical, the 1.5 and 3M aren't; they're both 1M upstream. |

It says expires 5/19 because well..when the fine print was done, they do that just in case for some reason they decide NOT to extend it. |

The last 'price for Life' promo "ended" Feb. 16, but it appeared again the next day. You don't drop a good promotion, but do give people a deadline to get them off the fence. |

Also, to clarify, the price for 7mb service is UP TO 7MB. You may qualify for 7mb. You may only qualify for 5mb. You may only qualify for 3mb. All 3 speeds are the same price plan.
The next PRICE PLAN down is the 1.5mb plan. It is $10 a month cheaper than the UP TO 7mb plan. (Depending on promos). The next price plan below that is the 256kb plan. Normally it is $13 cheaper than the 1.5mb plan, but there are normally promos going on to either make the 2 the same exact price, or close within a couple of dollars. Normally, the only people who would wisely choose the 256kb plan, are those that live on the limits and don't qualify for anything higher.
2 things to remember; 1st; If you can only get the 256kb and it's the same price as the 1.5mb; or you can only get the 3mb service but are paying the same as the 7mb customer, this doesn't mean that Qwest is ripping you off. It just means that the person who can get the 1.5mb service on sale during the promo, just happen to get a good deal at that time. Don't be mad because they signed up during a promotion. (Just because ford puts the Mustang on sale, doesn't mean they should have to put every make and model in the dealership on sale just because you can get a Mustang for about the same price as the Focus this week). 2nd; Qwest can train their service normally at the standards of the price plans. They train at 256, 1.5, 3, 5, and 7mb, If they can't get your dsl stable at 7nb, then they will lower to 5mb or 3mb. You are paying the extra $10 over 1.5 for UP to 7mb.
There is no ripping off here. If you think you're being ripped off because you get 3mb and another person paying the same exact thing is getting 7mb, then change over to cable. The whining just isn't going to cut it.
Anyway, that's how the 3,5, and 7mb are set up. They all are classified as "UP TO 7mb". Where they can get your modem and port to satisfactory train to is dependent on the cable, distance, and attenuation. Later.... Mike..... |

Well, I must have an odd deal.
My non-MSN 1.5M account: $28.00
No bundles, just Net and a basic phone line.
I use a local 3rd-party ISP, but even if I used Qwest Basic as an ISP instead, it's only $37.95 that way isn't it?
(I'm assuming it's still $9.95 for Qwest Basic)

| Yes, that is correct. I have the same dsl but WITH qwest.net. It too is $37.95. BUT, because it is DRY dsl and not discounts whatsoever, I am charged $5 more. Total price is $42.95. Now, MSN is normally $2 more than Qwest.net That brings it to the $44.95 that was originally posted.
For all intent and purpose, All qwest dsl is $15 for 256kb, $28 for 1.5mb and $38 for UP TO 7mb. Then, you add on the price of the ISP. THEN, if you have a qualifying plan and other bundles, start deducting $5 etc... If you have NO OTHER services at all, and that means DRY DSL, then ADD $5.
So, for me, it's $28 for DSL. $9.95 for Qwest.net ISP. and $5 for it being dry dsl and no other qwest services. Total price is $42.95. Later... Mike... |

For a minute there, I thought I was the only peep
not using some combo/promo/lifetime/whatever deal. 
I pay the 28.00, local ISP is 16.95. So, I pay a tad more...but I got local tech support and super nice folks. Plus, Iv'e been with them for years since back in 56k days.
They even sent all users out presents for Christmas..lol
I had a billing issue this month, called tech dept...he knew me from other calls, fixed it in 30 secs.
No voice mail or waiting...worth the extra $7/mo IMO. 
YMMV though with 3rd-party ISP's.

Qwest does have different prices in some areas, mainly nebraska and arizona for internet. also the names are
Qwest Connect 31.99
Qwest Connect Silver 31.99 1.5mbps
Qwest Connect Platinum 44.99 (ne and az) or 46.99 3-7mbps
with bundling discounts those prices drop 5 bucks
naked dsl run 36.99 for silver with microsoft or 46.99 for platinum with microsoft |
