delenn13De gustibus nil disputandumPremium,MVM join:2006-03-02 Ridgeway, ON | [Serious] Need Support and Your Patience I am taking the advice that I gave Santa Fe and posting . Don't know if anyone has noticed but I have been very sporadic in posting lately. I am on for a few minutes; try to post and have to leave and get out of the house. I have hardly posted to MY own thread on the Avatar/Graphics Creative Expressions last week as I just don't find it fun right now. As I discovered it therapeutic, I have been spending most of my time in the yard planting my flowers and veggies and watching my birds build nests, eat and court. Also I have spent a lot on Google searching Medical Sites.
Mother's Day I called my mom and I found out she was IN the hospital as we were talking. She said she would call me when she got out; she never did. I finally called and found out she had spent 10 days in the hospital. She has bone marrow cancer. Trying to get any info from her is like pulling teeth. All I know is she is on steroids. And if I was any kind of betting woman; she has Alzheimer's also. When I was there last year, I found things NOT in the correct places and she was always forgetting things. We had spent 5 mins looking for a bottle of catsup in the garage for dinner(for fries) and couldn't find them. Then dinner came and she said she had to go in the garage and look for catsup. There were a lot of other incidents over the past 2 years also. When I was there, I tried to talk to my stepfather about it. He just brushed me off saying she was tired. When I was talking to her this last time about getting out of the hospital, she had to ask my SF for the answers. She couldn't even remember she had bone marrow cancer....she had to ask him what was wrong with her.
It is very frustrating being over 2,500 miles away and not being able to do anything. So I have been trying to keep busy.
So I am asking for prayers and mojo for my mom, Patty, and support and patience with me until I can get it settled in my mind.... I can do nothing but wait until they call and need me....If that even happens. I am a "hands on type" and this is driving me crazy. -- "Dismissed. That's a Starfleet expression for 'Get out.'" Capt. | reply to delenn13 Also prayers and MOJO.. I would suggest having her tested for Alzheimer's and checking into getting a Power of Attorney to handle her affairs, either you or another sibling if possible. In this case, you would be able to speak directly to the doctor about her medical condition. But, being a daughter, you might want to just call her doctor and introduce yourself to him. If you don't know who he is, the hospital will have it on their records unless you Mom remembers. -- Spare computer cycles can help find answers Find A Cure!

Well delenn13 You have my prayers and support. And mine also! Are you sure that the step fathers mind isn't slipping a little also. You may want to talk to him rather often as he will be handling all her affairs. -- Whoever said that ignorance is bliss wasn't refering to a person with a computer at his fingertips! delenn13De gustibus nil disputandumPremium,MVM join:2006-03-02 Ridgeway, ON | reply to sortofageek Wow, sorta, thanks. I didn't even know about that page. Learn something NEW about this place everyday. I must have missed it..some days I am not click happy and don't click on every link in a post.
Actually my step father is pretty good about her. They have been married almost 30 yrs now. I even send him a Father's Day card..etc.I think its the part about growing old together and he doesn't want to admit anything is wrong yet.
I really don't want to just burst in with a POA and take over if I don't have to. It is hard to get a chance to talk to him alone with her knowing about it. I am just trying to wait until he has no choice but to accept something is wrong. They don't work so she is never alone. He is there.
Not to mention my husband was diagnosed with the early stages of glaucoma last month so we are at the eye doctor (specialist) a lot lately. He is taking the drops so right now..everything is good with that. So I just can't up and leave right now anyway. And my arthritis isn't getting any better; I go see a specialist next month.
But anyway thanks for all the little IM's, suggestions, prayers and support. -- "Dismissed. That's a Starfleet expression for 'Get out.'" Capt. Kathryn Janeway We CAN Cure Alzheimer's and Cancer. JOIN US HERE |

Re: [Serious] Need Support and Your Patience I know crazy. When my Dad was in the hospital following a heart attack years ago, it was tough to focus on or be at work. 2500 miles is way too far,
God sure took care of me while taking care of my Dad. I missed a couple months of work and the paychecks came in spite of me. My job never even felt at jeopardy! Thinking back, at this, it amazes me, because no company in their right mind would do that.
I will pray for her and you. You may feel all the need is for her, but intertwined lives suffer together.
I will pray for your Mom to have good medical care, and a sharper mind.
For you, I'll pray that can stay effectively close and informed in spite of the miles. -- Jim -- USA2K, SEE: Darlin' REBEKAH, VoIP since 12/2002, Packet8 since 12/2006. VOIPo in Beta, and Vonage . . . |

Although my partner is half way round the planet and it may be a while before we are close, the thought of her needing to go into a nursing home or something would be unbearable for me. I don't suppose they have internet at nursing homes where she is. When people live together for years the last thing they want to do is let go of 24/7 time together.
