I'm looking for a very quiet PSU ( Fan less if i can ) I'm looking to spend about £50 and under I'm also looking for a quiet CPU Cooler

| Ok, Johnny: You have been hear before, so you know this: We need to know about your hardware my friend before we can know what to recommend to you, right? Always tell people the kind of background information they will need so that they can help you, PLEASE.
We need to know what motherboard, cpu, RAM, # of drives, # of fans, add on cards, video cards, etcetera because how else can we know what your needs are, right?

Ok, that first site lists a lot of no name supplies I would not recommend, but there are some fairly good and some good brands too. FSP is ok, though some don't trust them nowadays, Tagan is a half way decent brand, Silverstone are mostly good, but they do have some noise problems with certain models that sound like squeeling pigs, Thermaltakes are ok if you get one of the upper end models, their lower end stuff is, at best, medium or lower grade, Antecs, their upper end models, are pretty good but some Antec supplies have a poor track record, so it depends, I can tell you that the true power trio supplies by them (made by Seasonic) are quite quiet, and, mentioning Seasonic: they are some of the best there is, Most OCZ stuff is quite good, though there have been some complaints on some models, Coolermaster has seen some complaints I don't know if I'd get one, Enermax are top designed supplies made by either Seasonic or a few other outfits and are some of the best, Almost all Enermax are very good though there have been complaints about their liberty line...
There's starters for you. Once we know what you need we can help you narrow down. Also, what is your budget?

It has a single internal 120mm fan that normally runs on the rig I have it in at about 700 RPM, and is inaudible with the case closed.
The voltages are rock steady and Seasonic makes excellent PSUs.
There is a 500w and 600w version also.
Check your other shop links - they may have the same supply for less, or one of the larger ones still within your budget.

Recommended lists are good only if they don't come from anyone with the slightest hint of a connection to the product and most lists come from people who get paid for advertisements, which calls the opinions into question in my mind. However I can tell you that the voltages on mine have been rock solid in the six months I've had it. The info in the link above compares well with my own experience.

My quiet PSU mod (120mm fan)
Tools, parts needed: screwdriver to open PSU, something to cut and strip wires, electrical tape, a male molex connector with the wires still attached.
1. Open your PSU, void the warranty.
2. Disconnect the fan's power connector and route the wire outside the PSU case. You can tape it up later to make it look nice.
3. Cut off the two-pin connector from the fan wire. Next, you need to attach a four pin molex connector to the two wires. There are several ways to do this. See #4.
4. Do 7 volt pin mod (google) on the molex connector.
You now have a near-silent fan. Going from 12 to 7 volts is still usually enough for the fan to keep things cool, but it reduces the noise significantly. If you really want silent, you can do a 5 volt mod (google again), but it probably won't be enough to keep your PSU cool.
You could also do this with a fan controller if you don't feel like cutting up wires and doing volt mods. |
