 Making my PC run Quieter

Hey all I have Dell Dimension 3000 cause when time came and my old PC died this is what I could afford. Anyways, it runs extremely loud and I even changed the power supply once.

I just upgraded the memory to 2-gigs and the PC is in an area with decent air circulation.

I am wondering what else I can possibly do. I am assuming I can add another fan but without a space for it on the case I don't know if it will do much as the air went get out.

Please help.

a fairly simple thing you can do is buy a silencing kit

it's basically just a bunch of rubber grommets and gaskets that you'd insert between the case and the component

ie, one for the psu, rubber to isolate the hard drive, fans, etc,etc

usually worth $15 or less, can make an immense difference in how quiet the system is

I think the noise is all coming from the fan constantly cranking.

If its the processor heatsink fan, then you may be able to find an aftermarket cooler to go on it. As that is a socket 478 processor, however, your choices are extremely limited.

Best one I could find is this one: »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···35118115

Be sure to get some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste to go under it.

adding another fan won't make it quieter.

If you think it's the HSF, you could go for water cooling.

When the wife complained of my 3 (& later just 2) Tornado's, I went H2O and the difference was almost spooky.

if the case is resonating the sound of your existing fan(s), you could line it with sound deadening material.
I used some years ago & liked it. But forget the name.
Basically, same stuff used in auto trunks. Thick tar on the sticky side, shiny metal foil on the flip side. (The tar makes it nearly impossible to remove later BTW).

The rubber grommets mentioned before are also a good idea.
