 Alert !!! - Sunrocket upgrade (maintenance) tomorrow morning

--- This just came into my inbox:

Thank you for choosing SunRocket, the best value in phone service! In order to continue to provide you with the best experience possible, we will be performing upgrades to our service on Wednesday June 6 between 4-6 AM EDT.
As a result, you may experience short service interruptions during this time. If you do experience any problem, please try your call again in a few minutes.

We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to continuing to serve you!

Sincerely,

The SunRocket Team

--- Way to go for the short notice SunRocket, but at least you are starting to let us know about these things.

Wow! This is the first time SR has warned about service disruptions during an upgrape - usually they just blame random disruptions on an upgrape. Beware - service is likely to be poor tomorrow.

("upgrape" is my intended spelling for the uninitiated.)

Hey, at least they're getting better, they're warning us beforehand.

I see this as an improvement.

Betcha if you call in tomorrow about this upgrape and the problems you are experiencing at 4 in the morning, the CSR wont have any idea about it and will tell you to reset the gizmo among other hoops to jump through. LOL

Most likely because billing and the cancellation department will be unavailable later in the week.

Not to start a war, but just for fun, so that some of the posters are aware that other VOIP providers have most all the same problems as SR, I will copy a few replies from the most current VT forum....you may go to their site to confirm these..

=====
My daughter signed up for VT 13 days ago during the 2 for 1 promo and will be returning it. VT telephone support was not effective in helping her make the service work through her router (why don't they ship out ATA w/router?). I'm 1,500 miles away so I can't help much, but was on a couple of conversations and they were polite and empathetic enough, just didn't have the horsepower to get it done. I never had to call support to get my stuff (Vonage, Nuvio, SunRocket, beta vendor) to work out of the box through a router. Very surprised and disappointed that the VT CSRs were not detail oriented enough. I must have spoken to at least 5 different ones and they all had different approaches, none of which were effective. I PMed Brendan here for help a week ago, but he hasn't picked it up yet. Bummer.

=====

Add a vote from me for this problem. I opened up a ticket and explained all the steps I took and got what seemed to be an automated response. I've spoken to a couple of techs and the suggestion was to put my adapter on DMZ but that just makes the problem worse. I've changed routers, swicthes and modems and still have the problem. The only thing that has not changed is the PAP2. I'm forwarding all the appropriate ports and my OOL connection is rock solid. Don't know what to do anymore and it seems as though the techs have the same attitude.

=======

You're not the only one; there are several others that have reported this problem. I have a VoIP line from Viatalk and one from another provider sharing the same internet connection. While VT will randomly send calls to voicemail, the other line has never missed a single call in two years. A family member of mine has VT on a different ISP and has the exact same issues. VT has had me waste money on equipment and I've tried (still trying) every VoIP tweak I can find, but I'm pretty sure that the problem lies with VT. BTW, I notice most of the people I've found with this problem use the Newyork-2 server. Which are you on?

=====

This is a common problem with VT. Submit a ticket. They'll ask a lot of questions to be sure your set up is proper. Then they'll make some adjustments on their end and the problem will go away for a while. Then it will return. It happened 5 times for me in 7 months. Then I canceled the service and they, of course, kept most of the $230 I paid up front for the service.

Good luck.

Simultaneous Ring

If you have your cell registered with Simultaneous Ring , try to call your VT number from it.You'll be transferred to cell's voice mail after 2 rings.
This is not how it was.VT screwed something up this time.

That's why my main VOIP line is with VoicePulse. The people who answer their phones know how to fix problems.

And what's your point anyway? That VT is as bad as SR? That one company's shortcomings mitigate another's? That SR should be excused because they are not the only VOIP company that has made big mistakes?

No, the point is that criticism from some users of VT, only in this example, are criticising SR for virtually the same kinds of problems, and doing this on the SR forum to boot.

As I have said before, no one is immune..

I been with Viatalk for over 10 months now. Customer service as been excellent in resolving my problem. The last one about 7 months ago. The only major problem was when I first signed up i could not call my daughter but Vt found out it was with Qwest equipment had it was fixed in less then 3 days
When I had sr the 2 problems I had was not fixed in 3 months.
For me Viatalk customer service is a hell a lot better then Sr

Again, my only point was to indicate that "everyone" has good and bad, not to run a contest. At least in this small VOIP arena we have actual competition and that in itself is a big plus for me.

I was only curious as to why some users came to a forum to complain about a company they weren't even using.

It appears that no one wants to think they made a bad choice when going with ANY provider. I came on here to DSLR before I signed up with SR. Nothing bad at all, everything was good. So, I went with SR. I tried to look past the potholes but in the end, it failed the wife test, put my family's safety at risk and CS was like dealing with a bunch of special ed drop outs that couldn't heard elephants if they tried. I won't speak of the last straw but it took 45 days to recover with the help of the FCC and PUC of Michigan (not to mention thanks to AT&T for pointing it out). I ended up with Voicepluse. Big improvement for CS and the service itself was a little better, it started having hiccups therefore, I didn't wait, I went back to pots. Over all, 2 providers were a let down, a few months before I left SR, peoples attitude towards them were dropping like rock. I've heard good things about VT, Vonage, etc but based on my experience, I was done with VoIP. I have WOW cable, had Comcast before. I've heard horror stories about both. They both seem to be fine with me, price made me jump ship. To each his own. Just because burris pointed out the similarities is within the scope of what this board is all about. If you don't like what he says, ignore it and move on. Simple..
