SmoothWheel - why this isn't built into Firefox as a standard I'll never know, just try it for ONE week, get used to how smooth your browser scrolls with your mousewheel then try going back to jerk-o-vision

| Re: [FireFox] Essential Firefox Addons Thats a matter of an opinion, for me its a necessity since I use just about every tool MR Tech Local Install provides, however for an average user I think the only option which is useful is "Install Extensions" which is built into FireFox already. To answer your question no I don't think Joe User needs to have MTLI as part of their install. -- "If it ain't broke don't fix it." | |

| Re: [FireFox] Essential Firefox Addons said by IE TAB :You might want to check out IE Tab instead » ietab.mozdev.org/IMHO, it's much nicer. I note that IE Tab is on Mozilla'a page of Problematic extensions. The page was last modified 15 June 2007, so it looks like IE Tab is still thought to possibly cause a problem. I don't know how many would agree with that but perhaps worth a mention. | |

| Re: [FireFox] Essential Firefox Addons Ones that I would consider ESSENTIAL that I use are:
- FEBE (Firefox Extension Backup Extension, lol a mouthful) Backs up all your Firefox extensions (other than itself ) in a folder of your choice. Also does history, Firefox preferences, cookies, bookmarks (but I don't use it, see below why) and other backup settings too.
- Foxmarks Bookmarks Synchronizer Sign up for an account online and allows you to upload all your bookmarks in one place. If you have multiple computers, Foxmarks keeps all the Firefox bookmarks in sync with the server. Of course I keep a hard copy of my bookmarks too.
- Tab Mix Plus A nice all in one tool for tab solutions. Gets rid of the need for standalone extensions like FLST or Duplicate Tab or Session Saver. Highly highly configurable.
- Rewind/FF buttons Helps quite a bit if you've got an image gallery or something that you can 'fast-forward' through.
- Stop or Reload button Hey, you don't need to press stop AND reload . So when a page is loading it'll turn to stop, and when a page is stopped it turns to reload.
- Gmail Notifier I know Gmail has their own app. But this one is so much more configurable. It allows you to check multiple accounts at the same time, something Gmail's app can't do.
Other not-so-essential but useful/cool extensions: - ChatZilla - IRC client right in your browser, has all the functions mIRC has, very cool. - FoxyTunes - if you listen to music while FF'ing, then you need this. It controls your music player from within the browser and supports so many music players.
I'm still browsing through this thread for some more extensions to add to my ever-growing list . I haven't found a need for ad blocking yet though. I find that my anti-spyware/virus utilities (Spy Sweeper and NOD32) does a good enough job keeping away this stuff.

| One of the reasons is because the author of that extension insists on using an incorrect setting for prefetching which doesn't do anything what so ever. Unless I hacked the extensions it didn't really work, plus why would I go through all that trouble when I can implement everything the FasterFox uses with the above link. -- "If it ain't broke don't fix it." | |
