Re: [billing] 768K plan - price jack-up I had the $14.95 introductory plan. About a month before my contract was up I received the following email from Verizon:

We appreciate your business and we look forward to continuing to serve you. Verizon Online If I had not seen that email, I would have been charged $21.99 a month. Verizon informed me I had to commit to another 1 year contract to get a cheaper rate of $19.99 a month. I found an online Verizon ad that stated, "I could keep my same low price", if I renewed my contract before my existing contract expired.
When I tried to renew at the $14.95 rate, Verizon didn't want to honor it, and tried to get me to switch to Fios, which is offered in my area. I told them I was happy with my DSL, at $14.95. Verizon told me they were not offering a DSL yearly plan in my area, because Fios was available. After many phone calls to Verizon, they said they would let me have a 1 year DSL contract, but the rate would be $19.99 a month. I kept referencing the online ad, but they refused to honor it. I kept arguing the point, and stood my ground. After many more phone calls, I finally I spoke to a level 2 Billing supervisor in "Fios" who said they would honor the $14.95 a month. It seems Fios, and DSL billing are being combined under fios billing in the NY metro area. Long story short: I still have the $14.95 plan. But the only way it could be done was to give me a monthly credit for the difference between $14.95 and $19.99. I didn't care how it was done, just so long as it was! Needles to say I haven't seen that, "keep the same low rate" ad anymore. | | | Ok then, I'm going to see if I can't get another year contract at $19.95
| | reply to twbartender You qualify for FIOS but still want to keep your DSL?? | | | gower2352,
As much as I'd like to have it, I really don't need it. I was using dial-up until a year ago. DSL only started being offered in my area, about a year and a half ago. I tried to get it at that point, but the CO was incapable of handling any new customers. It took almost 6 months before I was able to order it. In February of this year, Fios became available in my area. I did subscribe to Fios TV using the other telephone line in my home. (Second Account) When it was installed, the wireless router, and battery back-up for the phone, were put in place. If I decide I need the speed, most of the equipment is already installed. But right now $14.95 a month sounds better then $39.99.
twbartender | | | Oh ok I understand now! Glad you at least got their tv service as I will only be able to dream about FIOS!
