USR8054 not working at all!!

Hi, my friend brought his U.S.ROBOTICS router USR8054 that has been giving him hard time. When I plugged in the power adapter, the POWER light stays ON all the time, while the STATUS light never tunrs ON, I hooked it up to my laptop through LAN port 1, but WAN, LAN 1,2,3,4 flash all the time, I reset the thing ( 5-10 sec like the manual says, then tried reseting it for a minute) but it still does the same thing after reboot, I tried different lan ports but no go.

The power light stays ON, STATUS is OFF all the time, WAN, LAN1,2,3,4 are flashing at the same time, then OFF, then flashing for 4-5 seconds, then OFF again for couple seconds, while the power stayes ON and the status OFF.

Any thoughts are welcomed.

I left it running for half an hour, while not hooked up to the computer nor the dsl modem. The power light is solid green, STATUS light is still dead, WAN, LAN ports 1,2,3,4 flash once every 10 seconds now, so I hooked up my laptop to it. The WAN, LAN ports lights flash once, then go OFF, then LAN port 1 only goes green for couple seconds, and I can see my computer is trying to connect to it, then the lights go OFF again, then all lights srat flashing... etc.

The 8054 is in a "firmware" reset mode. Try setting a static ip address to your laptop, and then getting into the router that way.

Eg: Set laptop to 192.168.1.3

Once you do this, then open up your browser and go to 192.168.1.1 and you should be prompted with a firmware upgrade page. So simply download the firmware for the 8054 and install the firmware through this page. That should fix it.

If this does not fix the problem, I am pretty sure there is a special sequence to reset the 8054 to get it out of this mode. I would write an email to USR and ask them that question. Ask them to ask tier2, but chances are likely they wont talk to you as you will be out of warranty.

Hope that helps!

as a comment, my 8054 was defaulted to »192.168.123.254/ and that is the Address in the manual as well, (»www.usr.com/support/8054/8054-ug/index.html) so you may wish to set your PC to 192.168.123.250 and try the »192.168.123.254/ address

HI all ,
I had the same problem with my usr8054
One day my router died, doing nothing anymore, turned out to be the power adapter, bought a new one and power light back on...
Then i had the same problem as described above, power light on and every 5,10 seconds all 4 orange lights blinking...
reset did nothing etc...
tried everything, router did not respond at all..
was tired of it and decided to open him up and take and look, i noticed a condensor who was broken (condensor 680 micro Farad,6.3v, it was located next to the transmitter card,if openend up,lights facing you, condensor next to the bottom right of the transmitter card) if its broken you'll see that there are cracks in it,its the top that pops open when broken)
decided to change it with a new one and router back fully operational,no problems since...
this is the procedure to follow when testing usr8054...

set static ip address on your computer:
IP 192.168.123.50
SM 255.255.255.0
GW 192.168.123.254
PD 192.168.123.254
open up IE, go to »192.168.123.254

My Configuration Utility is not responding, but I can still access the Internet.
Possible Solution:
If your Configuration Utility stops responding, unplug and then plug back in the power supply of the Wireless Turbo Access Point & Router. This will reboot the Wireless Turbo Access Point & Router. If you are still unable to communicate with the Configuration Utility, press in and hold the RESET button. While holding the RESET button, unplug then plug back in the power supply. When the Wireless Turbo Access Point & Router has power again, continue to hold the RESET button for about five seconds to reset the Wireless Turbo Access Point & Router to the factory default settings. If you applied any personal configuration settings, you will need to make the changes again.
