Re: Friend wants to switch from ROGERS to TEKSAVVY...but...

Depending on where you live Rogers Home phone is either a digital system (not quite VoIP) or circuit switched.

It boils down to if you have rogers cable available to you.

I live in peterborough and so the home phone service is over the circuit switched lines. My parents in newmarket get it over the cable system.

Rogers used the cable system mainly to avoid paying bell to lease the land line.

daboom is correct in this instance. If it is Roger's Digital Home Phone then no, regular DSL will not work, the friend will indeed need Dry Loop. Essentially Digital Home phone is pretty well VoIP that uses a cable box to connect the phone services. Furthermore if he does decide to go with TekSavvy Dry Loop, it would be in his best interest to call up Roger's and have them hook one of the phone jacks back into the Bell System. (Due to the fact that from my experience Roger's does not charge to set one back but Bell will charge to hook one up)

Regards,

Rick

you said he had the rogers digital phone system via their cable system?
If so Rogers will not touch bell's lines going to the house. You might have to do a rewire say use the second pair of wires that aren't used to a jack near where the modem is because rogers may have hijacked the inside wiring for the rest of the phones.

I am pretty sure he can get Adsl on his Rogers line but he needs to fax a letter to Rogers and from rogers to Teksavvy.

I know thats what an office had to do because there lines were with a non bell company.

yeps he can do it just have to pay a bit more for the Teksavvy Dry Dsl package. Rogers is using their own network for his phone line it doesn't touch bells whatsoever.

A friend of mine finally decided to give up on crappy rogers and he wants to switch to teksavvy but he's got one problem. His home phone is on rogers home phone service, and his current internet provider is rogers. What exactly does he need to do to get teksavvy running?...Does he have to do anything about his home phone as i'm not 100% on how rogers has wired his phone now and i'm pretty sure teksavvy needs bell phoneline to run on and not the rogers one...he says his home phone is connected through this box first which connects to the rogers cable so it doesnt connect to the wall phonejacks.

PS. Sorry if this may sound like a dumb question for some but he asked me to tell him exately what he has to do and im not 100% sure on it myself as he doesnt wana be without internet for too long
