Planning to do a credit card dispute? Read this

A bit of advice for everyone who is going to dispute with credit card company. I just got off the phone with MBNA dispute department.

My credit card is offering me 4 months to dispute, and luckily, I am just 3 days short of 4 months So I can dispute my Sunrocket charge so long as they receive my faxed dispute within 3 days.

1) Please email Sunrocket Customer Service email address. You will get an auto response message - print that email. You will require that as proof that you tried to contact Sunrocket prior to filing.
2) Mention in your letter that you also tried to call customer service and you got the automated "greeting" that they have stopped taking service calls.
3) Login to your phone carriers account and print the call logs indicating your attempt to call sunrocket's 800 number.
4) Call your credit card dispute resolution department IMMEDIATELY. Most credit card will have this department open for 24 hours. Have them fax the dispute form (if they do not have them online for printing). Immediately fax them the above proofs along with the completed dispute form and a cover letter indicating that you had paid for 2 years of service and the service ended abrubptly, and calls to customer service were futile.
5) Sit back and relax. The credit card company will generally attempt to call Sunrocket's 800 number to check, and if they are unable to reach SR, they will automatically credit you the amount they charged.

I just sent an email to member services asking for refund.

An automated reply was sent, directing me to sign in to member services on the site.

This took me to my request on my member services pace, with no response from them yet.

I've not called the cc company yet but will do that tonight. There shouldn't be any issue as I only signed up on the 12th.

I called the cc company a couple of hours ago.

They said that no charge from the 11th is showing, and no charge for this month.

I called in to citi to dispute my charge from January this year.

The rep asked how much of the charge - i told him the ENTIRE tamale. He set the process in motion, no questions asked.

He said they would first contact the merchant (SR) of the dispute. I don't expect they'll get much of a response.

Aside from being w/ out a landline for a week until my port goes through to another provider, I might actually come out ahead on this one.

I suggest call AMEX IMMEDIATELY and tell them that you want to dispute the charges. The T&C of each card varies, and the available dispute period is different for each card.

I just hung up with american express, they are disputing the whole 214.11 that was charged to my account. they did not need anything from me. I asked if they wanted information on sunrocket and he said no. they will check into the service being shut down and credit my account

I have called Amex 4 times already and they keep saying they can't do anything for me since it has been more than 60 days. I love Amex but Discover as of today is taking better care of their customers. I may have to think of switching in the future.

sorry to hear that, american express was cool with me...maybe since it was in May...it feel into the 60 day frame, he never mentioned anything about dates or when I charged it. he Just put the dispute through.

I called Discover Card a little while ago and the rep started laughing when I mention Sunrocket! She said they've received a load of calls from customers asking to dispute Sunrocket charges. She credited my account and will forward some paperwork to complete the process.

I also called Citi Mastercard and was told that anything older than 6 months must be mailed or faxed in. The Fax number for Citi Mastercard dispute department is 605-357-2021. Include the info above plus your account number, a note that it was a prepaid service, the charge amount and the exact date of the transaction. If you are unable to get your statements for the date and amount then if you use Quicken or simular program get it from there.

Well, according to my Chase rep, I'm getting a credit for my original charge, minus the 3.5 months I've used. That will be $174.39.

Even though it's being pro-rated, I'm not gonna complain one bit (if the credit actually goes through - it sure sounded like it was a done deal...).

Now, on to getting a number port...

Just tell them service stopped already. There's nobody at sunrocket to tell them otherwise.

According to the new company teleblend, SR's service should shut down at 12:01 am on 7/23.

FYI...

I disputed my SR charge with Chase on Monday evening and the credit has been posted to my account as of today. Since there's nobody home at SR anymore to challenge the refund, I'm sure it'll stick.

So, I basically paid SR for the 3 months of service I used and not a penny more - time to forget 'em and move on.

Re: Planning to do a credit card dispute? Read this

Mine was not over 6 months old. But you should ask for the dispute deparment. When I called and asked to dispute, they were very quick to offer to transfer me to the dispute department but not before, GET THIS...

CSR: "I'll be happy to transfer you to our dispute department, but before I do that, can I interest you in our ...."

ME: "No, I want to get this issue cleared up."

CSR: "I also notice that you are qualified for our low interest rate of ... Do you have any outstanding balance?"

ME: "No,...(sounding irritated)"

CSR: "Let me transfer you."

I've had this happen a couple of times already.

Thanks for opening up this topic. I would have thought about it eventually but because I saw this last night I started the process and faxed off everything this morning. I'm dealing with Bank of America. They requested I send a cover letter with explanation of everything and any paperwork (invoices, etc). They sounded like it may take 4-6 weeks but I could deduct the deputed amount now from my payments and things would be adjusted when the smoke clears.

I just called Citi (I have the Simplicity Card) and was told I would need to fax or mail in a form they will send me. I find it quite strange since this charge is about 3 months old..but anyways..i guess i will have to wait for the letter and sign it describing the situation. Best of luck to all. I wish the process was more automated though. But i will take what i can get.

Complete success with phone call request for chargebacks to both Chase VISA and AmExp Platinum (both are business accounts). Just keep in mind that most issuers require paper documentation or signed statments once you are 60 to 90 days out from the date of the original charge.

For those who are used an AMEX Starwood, no luck in getting an immediate dispute going because it is 60 days over the allowable time. However, if you ask, you can ask the rep to put in a request for someone in the higher ups to look at your situation. Just ask her to put in a request to customer service, explain the situation and what's going on with sunrocket. they will be glad to help since they feel for your position. They will get file a record of your complaint and someone will review it in the next 45 days and you will recieve a response in the next 4-6 weeks. Hey, it's better than nothing.

Just sent one and did not get a reply... I was lucky to get the auto-response when I posted the OP...

In either case, if you email and receive no response, you should be fine to tell the CC company that you attempted to email and call customer service without getting a response back.

I just called my credit card company -- Chase -- to dispute the charges for both the accounts I had with SR. After being transferred to 4 agents, I finally got one who helped me. She said Chase is familiar with the situation and they didn't require I send them anything.

I disputed the entire amount as SR is in breech of their contracts to provide me and my daughter with 1 year pre-paid VoIP service + 3 FREE months. I started with them back in Oct. 2006. I've had my issues with Chase before but this was the best service I've gotten ever from them. I hope it all works out and I get full reimbursement.

So somehow you are rationalizing you should not pay for the ~7 months of service? Please... give me some moral or even legal ground of your thought process here.. To ask for money back for services used, is just as bad as SR stiffing us. Don't justify bad behaviour siting other's bad behaviour

just called my AMEX cash rebate card. Told the CSR the story but he was confused about what exactly do I want. So I said I just want to dispute the charge that was made back in feb. But noted that it should be half of $209 since I did use 6 months now. He gave me a ref. number, will suspend the charge and will investigate. I don't expect much out of this but I guess I am just doing my due diligence for myself.

I saw the spill friday when someone said SR is going bye bye but I didn't want to believe him and was hoping it's just a troll spreading rumor. sigh...

They credited me on the phone too (Chase Sony). My amount was for $107 which was the $99 deal.

I cant imagine how SR's merchant bank is going to be able to deal with all these chargebacks. The money has to come from somewhere and I'm wondering if SR even has money in their account....
