2. Get New Service;
Listen to my #1 TIP
STAY STAY STAY
AWAY AWAY AWAY
FROM FROM FROM
VOIP VOIP VOIP

Vonage and VT are going to go bankrupt
Vonage has reported it, and there are already complaints from VT. It's Simple only your Local Phone Company can yank the Number you want.
Services Like
Verizon Voicewing "just did it"
ATT CallVantage
are Decent, and I recommend those,

If Vonage loses their VOIP case, VT and the rest lose,
ATT AND VERIZON cannot.

------------------------------
FILE A COMPLAINT FORM 437 with FCC
»svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cib/fcc475.cfm

Tell them you had sunrocket, paid taxes and e911 service, and they have placed you and a position with this bankruptcy leave.

Not sure how the FCC is going to get my money back. SR just charged my CC for 214.11, in May, so maybe the CC company may help. I placed a call to them.

I'm not really confident the CC company will come through either, where will the money come from?

The CC company will credit you, then go after Sunrocket. It goes from you vs. Sunrocket to your CC vs. sunrocket.

Good post. It should hopefully help some...I just called my CC and started the process myself. I was going to wait, but then I thought, wait for what; the party is over it seems.

I just called my credit card bank (Chase) and they credited me for the pro rated amount (for my remaining unused portion)of my annual fee.
It's a shame, I loved that company...

I signed up last summer but I'm supposed to be paid up to July 2008. Am I able to get some sort of compensation?

Interestingly, I called my CC company, and disputed the charges, and they were fully aware of Sunrocket going bankrupt, and had no problem putting this amount in dispute.

well it's simple
the fcc and jump in and make sure the servers aren't switched off, or that customers can migrate over.

How long does it take for a credit to show up on your CC account?

Member Bill of Rights. This is just too funny.

Integrity & Trust: We endeavor to fully inform you of available options so you can make timely and informed choices. We will never abuse your trust through deceit, exploitation, neglect, manipulation, or discrimination.

I just re upped for a year on 4-20-07 and used my AMEX card. I just called American Express and they said they had no problem disputing this charge and would give me a credit. Like was said earlier, it is now Credit Card Co. VS RipRocket. The Credit Card will probably not get anything out of them but they told me they would rather have my business. Check with your billing company or bank to see what you can do !!

Approaching the CC company seems to be a good option. Just called DCU and they are very well aware of the Sunrocket situation, and agreed to dispute the transaction on my behalf while also crediting my account for a prorated amount.
Do call up the CC company without fail!

How come you're so against VOIP all of a sudden? Just because some of these companies don't make it, does it menas that they will all fold.

I agree, Carlito. We don't use phones much at my home, it is only my wife and I here. I don't want to pay much for something I really don't use that much. I am the same about cell and pay T-Mobile $100 for 1000 min that are good for 1 year and rollover. VoIP is the answer for me, and I don't think the whole thing will collapse. I hope there is plenty of competition to keep the prices down.

I called CitiBus Crd on 7-18 and they knew about the Sunrocket problem. Put me on hold for 1 min - rep came back and said they would credit account and charge back merchant. I had double billing from SR! Credit showed in account on 7-22. Was told to keep all paperwork for 90 days on this issue.

MY ADVICE...

VOIP is affordable, but you are taking a chance that your new VOIP company may also go out of business. To avoid a big loss, you could go with a month by month contract with a VOIP provider. Sure, it will cost you more than paying for the whole year, but you don't chance paying for service you won't get, and it still cost you less than conventional land line POTS.

Another useful link

Terms of Service agreement:

Of particular interest are the sections about being refunded a prorated amount if service is cancelled.

SUNBLENDED X2

@comcast.net

Bank of America/mbna refunded me 6 months service
that I prepaid (for the year) over half a year ago. So dont be
shy about doing a chargeback. CC companies have access
to bankrupt clients for a while. During the first part of bankruptcy, the credit card accounts must still stay open. Sunrocket Bankruptcy will pay secured creditors first (people who funded the startup/loans), but they consider the user a non secure fiduciary. The user who paid with a check will get
the pennies rolling on the floor after everyone else has left the room. So the CC companies are the only saving grace for the consumer. Yes they have high interest rates, but when it comes to situations like this, its great to have them.
