[Other] Joiphone

Anyone have comments on JoiPhone?

Are there activation fees?

They have a very good deal $108 annual ($8.95 mo but must pay year).

PS: I did search and saw some posts but they were too old or too little info.

Re: [Other] Joiphone

Yeah - after going through the signup process (no byod option)

unlimited $107.40
Shipping and Handling $14.95
One Time Setup Fee $30.00
Monthly 911 Fee ($0.95/mo per line) $11.40
USF tax $6.62
TOTAL
$170.37

not as impressive with all the fees and taxes

Are you serious? Not impressive with the fees and taxes?

Isnt VT 199 plus fees and shipping?

Wasnt SR 199 plus fees and shipping?

Isnt Nuvio now 199 plus shipping, port fee and taxes?

Most providers monthly are 19.95 or 24.95 plus taxes/fees.

Actually, I thought I posted a followup comment but guess I probably just hit the preview button and forgot to hit post.. maybe i should go back to sleep - lol

I agree the fees are comparable and better than many VOIP providers.

But for byod users, as in my case, I dont see an option. Most VOIP providers waive activation and of course shipping with BYOD so that is $45 less. Perhaps if one calls there customer service the option is available.

So bottomline, if you are a regular customer and not byod their prices are very good. Plus I actually like their website - it does not seem scammy to me as mentioned earlier in the thread.

These folks have had billboards up around Atlanta for about the past year or more.

While that doesn't mean a lot, paying $3-4k/month for billboard advertising in a major city doesn't seem like a normal MO for a scamster.

Additionally, these guys ran a successful ISP provider company (JoiInternet?) for a few years before selling it off (I think to Earthlink), so it's not as if they are a fly-by-night company.

The thing that I liked the least was that it's hard to find out how much it will cost for their services without going through the sign-up process far enough to get to a page that lists what they are about to charge your credit card.

Early in the Sunrocket is Dead thread someone posted a link to the Joiphone service at $4.95/mo. If I were going to use them, I'd dig that link up.

But now that I've unlocked my Sunrocket Gizmo, I'm a BYOD guy, so no Joiphone for me.

I actually like there website. I dont get the scam feeling. It just doesnt suit me with all the fees and no byod.

Without byod, if you need an adapter, the deal above is probably better than a lot of other voip providers.

Has anyone got the Gizmo yet with the overnight shipping im thinking of canceling my ViaTalk order and getting this?

I think that I may try these guys, I want to call their Tech Support in the morning and find out if I can use my SR Gizmo to save on some of the costs.

I understand that a bunch of people have unlocked their gizmos to work with companies like viatalk.

Any info on joiphone would be appreciated!

Yes but they still dont waive the activation fee.

Re: [Other] Joiphone

Have fun trying to get the SIP proxy info and password from them so you can BYOD. I've been trying the past two days, and so far, nothing. It says right on their site for previous SunRocket customers to sign up for any plan, and BYOD. You'll see in their config instructions page (which is missing some stuff) that you'll need the SIP proxy and password e-mailed to you after you sign up. Then if you read the fine print at the bottom, they say to send them a message to their support address, and after they've confirmed your info, they'll e-mail the proxy and password to you.

After signing up for the two year plan, and three messages later, they still haven't provided it to me. They told me in their reply to my second message (first was not answered at all) that I did not have a need for that info, because they already sent out my ATA. BUT, I won't have it for six days (FedEx tracking number), and so I'd like to BMOD for now, but they haven't come through with what their web page says they'll do. So far, I haven't heard of anyone that JoiPhone has followed up with on this, and actually given them the proxy and password info so that they can BYOD.

INXS, I signed up for 1 year unlimited BYOD today at 10:15AM, sent an email to support asking for the gizmo settings at 10:19AM, and received nothing thus far. Hopefully they've got support people working late!

How is the quality so far?

Re: [Other] Joiphone

Well it's not a matter of having INSX pm'ing me the settings because I still need the SIP password to my account which needs to be provided by Joiphone.

But ask and I shall receive! Literally minutes after I posted my previous message, I got my settings from Joiphone emailed to me, followed by another email saying that "according to our records we emailed you the configuration already." They must've been checking the forums here.

So far... the quality is great! Mind you I've only had the service for about 15 minutes, so I haven't really put it through its paces yet, but haven't detected any echoes, no chopping, and best of all, I AM ABLE TO SEND FAXES!!!

So far, so good.

Better sound quality than SR; no delay, no chopping, no echo, even when browsing the web and using the phone at the same time.

Me likes JoiPhone ...

Now, I just have to wait for them to port my old SR phone number.

Tried signing up with Joiphone - no luck. I had emailed support to see about my availability, took almost 24 hours to get a response. I'm not in one of their areas. Guess since I wasn't going to be a customer or hadn't already signed up, I didn't rate a "timely" response.

I just took the plunge and signed up this AM. Got a message from support stating they will be sending my SIP CREDS soon. I hope so. I'm also porting my Signature only number to them. Their web interface is not very pretty but functional none the less. I can't use my phone at all right now, as the forward option is not available until you connect. So I have a phone number that goes nowhere.

"JOI Internet, a Hawk Communications LLC company, was a national Internet service provider headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia...

First, they are not a scam. If you read their "about us" statement then go to their parent company Hawk VoIP LLC and read the same you will think differently.

I managed to get thru to Tech Support in a little more than one minute yesterday afternoon. Apparently they had serious problems with their phone system company wide and they have since resolved the issue. They resolved all of my issues quickly and in a very professional manner. To anyone that got the ATA Did they ship it out next day Like they said? Not me they shipped it ground and its been a week now and my number isn't ported in 24- 48hrs like they were promising. and when they shipped my ata ground they want a Direct signature where you have to be home. it was probably close to $15 dollars for the shipping with the direct signature for a $30 ATA. I already want to cancel. If fedex comes again tomorrow while im not here the 3rd and final attempt. i hope they send it back to joiphone.

The offer for 24-48 hour porting has since expired and was only available if your number was with the same CLEC as JoiPhone. If you did not meet that criteria, like me, all they and other providers can do is submit the request to the appropriate CLEC and hope for the best. Considering that there are potentially 200K requests going to the various CLEC's, they have to be swamped. My request for porting went in on the 18th and has not been completed yet. Also the next day shipment expired late Wednesday night, which is when they took it off the Web site.
