Email: SunRocket Service to be Discontinued

CRITICAL LETTER TO sunrocket CUSTOMERS
- SERVICE TO BE DISCONTINUED WITHIN 10 DAYS -
Dear Customers,

As previously reported, sunrocket is in the process of closing its operations and therefore will no longer be able to provide you with the phone service. However, this email provides you with an opportunity to sign up with select service providers who we believe will offer outstanding replacement service.

While services to customers may be discontinued at anytime, all services will be discontinued no later than august 5, 2007.

However, there are two preferred service providers we are recommending, which are: 8x8, Inc., provider of the Packet8 service, and Unified Communications Corp., provider of Teleblend services will be offering you the best options and we are proud to recommend the following alternatives to you.

We urge each and every customer that has not signed up with a new service provider to immediately do so now. Do not delay as services are being discontinued and will be permanently shut down no later than august 5, 2007.

8x8/Packet8

The Packet8 Internet phone service incorporates patent protected technology from 8x8. Inc., a publicly traded company in business for more than 20 years. The service works in the same way as sunrocket’s and offers a virtually identical feature set.

Really hoping now that AT&T POTS can get their act together. I requested transfer on the 17th and am still on whatever remnant of the service is left.

Should I try to port to 8x8 in the mean time, or will this mess me up?

So the looming but unanswered question is:

Will we be able to get our number ported after the shutdown??

I love the sales push. Rather than giving a cutoff date they give us this:

While services to customers may be discontinued at anytime, all services will be discontinued no later than august 5, 2007

Well, that does sound like a cutoff date - august 5th.

I think the disclaimer about happening anytime is to cover themselves if equipment goes down in the meantime. sunrocket/Teleblend/Sherwood probably doesn't want to invest the time/effort of keeping things running when they'll be taken down very soon anyway. If something fails before then, they can wash their hands of it.

Exactly my question. No FOC Date yet from my new provider.
Just asked the question of Vitelity, my new provider and they said:
"The order has been submitted to the LEC - you don't have to worry about losing the number. Unfortunately the port may not be completed by the 5th, but we will be able to complete the port for you. As soon as we receive foc or reject from the LEC we'll notify you via email."

Well, FWIW, I just called VYL (it's still weird getting a real person when I call customer service) and they checked it out and said my port (I submitted it yesterday) won't be affected even if SR turns the lights out before it's completed. So, it's pretty much what I suspected. I'd imagine it will be like that with any ported number/provider combo.

Edit: Well, if I could type faster...

i would think yes, as they will go back into the pool, and you've already got the port request in (i hope).

side note, my VT port is scheduled for the 30th...*phew*

No, "It has been our pleasure to service you at sunrocket!" is correct.

As the bull services the cow, sunrocket has just serviced you.

Interesting...I didn't know SR was actually still in business.

Typically, when a company goes out of business, they shut their doors and stick up a sign.

This is even more interesting, as Mr.Fogg said they took over the functionality of a defunct SR and by some sort payment to "network providers" who materialized out of the ether, were able to continue the service.

I sure need some clarification.

How do you know when your VT port is scheduled to be completed? I submitted mine last Thursday (7/19), and I have not heard anything other than we have it and it will get done.

Call and if you get a sympathetic tech, ask if they can give you the FOC date they have. If all goes well, that should be the date the port completes.

When I have gotten through on the phone, I have so far been fortunate to make contact with knowledgeable techs. No complaints about that.

I just printed up my notice and it was sent out by Net Atlantic. I went to the site and they're an
"Email Marketing, Web Hosting & SMS Text Messaging" group.

I just hope my number ports before sunrocket goes down for the count.
