FAQ link: HOW TO POST IN A THREAD
Please make sure you actually have Blast (high sustained speeds) and not PowerBoost before posting an availability report in this topic.
What is Blast?
Blast! is an actual speed upgrade to 16/1 or 16/2, which will be reflected in measures of actual download and upload. See the speed tiers here ---> »Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ »What are the actual Provisioned Speeds? Because of PowerBoost, you cannot demonstrate the Blast! upgrade has been received using flash and java speed tests or other tests which don't download/upload enough data to avoid giving skewed results. You can tell by measure of actual download and upload of large files, by looking at the capped speed in some modems' diagnostic pages, or by charges on your Comcast bill (if you have actually ordered the Blast! tier.)
How can I show confirmation I have the 16/2 or the 12/2 tier?
Since PowerBoost can make finding sustained speed impossible using the speed test sites, dadkins demonstrated how to find sustained download speed.
Show a screenshot of an actual download and then an upload of about 100 MB of a much larger file which demonstrates that you do have the new speeds, sustained and not just an initial burst like PowerBoost.
Show a screenshot of a letter or email you received which confirms the new speed tier is available to you in your area.
Post a screenshot of a scan of a Comcast invoice which shows you have the Blast! tier on your account. (Be sure to obscure personal identification information.)
If you have a Motorola Surfboard 5120 modem, this post will explain how to confirm you have the Blast! tier via your modem logs. Since a recent firmware update the Motorola 5100 is again showing the config filename in the modem logs. See this post. Some older Linksys modems will show the name of the config file in their diagnostic pages as well. Show us the screenshot, please. This post recaps current config file names and translates what they indicate in terms of speed caps.
Newer Linksys modems, such as Model BEFCMU10, Version 4 will show the caps on your connection. Go to the connection link via »192.168.100.1 and look at the provision rates for both downstream and upstream channels, as shown in this post. Upload a screenshot.
The various java and flash speed tests cannot confirm Blast! tier because they don't test download/upload past the bursts of PowerBoost.
Reports of availability to date: (Remember, also, if DOCSIS 3.0 is available in your area, the 16/2 and 12/2 tiers should be also. Check DOCSIS 3.0 availability reports in the first post of this topic ---> »Let's keep all DOCSIS 3.0 Discussion in this thread, please )

2 edits | Blast! Tier Availability in Richmond, VA I have 16mbps/2000kbs blast available in Richmond, Virginia. This is not powerboost. I can upload large files (500MB or more) at over 200kb/sec.
Interestingly enough, I called Comcast last week telling them I was switching to Fios unless blast was available in my area. They told me that it wasn't available. However, a few days later I received a new cable modem config file (d11_m_sb5120_speedtierextreme2_c01.cm) and now I have blast speeds.

| No Blast yet here in South Jersey area (Erial) I called here in the South Jersey area (Erial) and still no blast. I been paying the extra $10 a month for the 8 for a few years now. I know its down the road about a mile but not around here yet. ANd I called Comcast and talked with 3 people and they can't do anything not no modem config files nothing.
Another person on the phone told me the blast is in areas that have FIOS. SO I have no FIOS around here yet but will keep an eye out for the Verizon trucks.
I know a few people that have FIOS internet and TV in Cherry Hill

| Me too: Blast available in Norristown, PA 19401 I got the letter (Blast! at no extra charge for 6 months) and called a few weeks ago. After spending probably an hour on the phone with the Comcast monkeys, they finally got it working for me.
Verizon has not put down fiber in my neighborhood yet, but I know they have in other nearby neighborhoods. I suppose I am benefiting from the upcoming competition.

I see speeds between 15.0 and 22.0 Mbps down from Giganews using all 10 connections.

| Re: Me too: Blast available in Norristown, PA 19401 Nice Illuminated. I have been waiting patiently for similar speeds from usenet. I hope they roll out blast here at my location. However, each time they tell me it is scheduled it always seems to get postponed for exactly six weeks. I am starting to think they are full of baloney and are told to lead people on by advancing the day of inquiry by six weeks and telling customers that's when to expect Blast. | |

| Sorry for the double post, but after doing more speed tests and checking, I am getting 16/2. To add to the incredible boost, apparently speedboost is still active. When starting a download, I get over 20 meg down (as high as 24 meg down) before it goes back to around 16.
I love the added upload speed, too!

| Blast! is available for almost ALL of Montgomery, Howard, and Anne Arundel Counties in Maryland, as well as inrequent occurances in charles/calvert. There is none in Baltimore, or Carrol. There are small sections in Delmarva.
If you're in any of those areas call in to check

4 edits | hi, This is my story: I live in south philly, zip 19148. last night i went to comcast.com to sign up for the service and noticed that they offered 16mbps blast plan in my area. so i decided to call 1-800-COMCAST instead of ordering online. i talked to a rep and he said that he knew for fact that the 16mbps Blast is not available in Philly as of this moment. he also added that it's only available for testing in the suburbans around philly (with 6 months free of charge). also, the rates in his system were apparently higher than that on comcast.com (for example: the 6mbps plan from him is $42 for current customers or $19.99 for new customers, as opposed to comcast.com's $19.99 for current customers or $7.20 for new customers). so i wasnt able to sign up through him.
then i went back on comcast.com to sign up. the online rep added the 16mbps plan into my account for $29.99/month for 6 months.
however, when i tested the speed on DSLR.com and speedtest.net, the results were very inconsistent. it's all over the places, with the download speed mostly ranging between 8mpbs and 12mbps, sometimes up to 16mbps if i chose the New York test server. this, in addition to what the phone rep told me, puts me in serious doubt regarding which plan they are actually provisioning me
just for reference, this is one of the results from speedtest.net:
so am i having blast 16mbps or powerboost 16mbps? is there a way to find out?
and no, fios is not here yet, although a couple people in center city said they have already been using fios

2 edits | Re: Is Blast! available in your area - Not PowerBoost Pt 2 ok, i think they just provide me with powerboost 16mbps, because when i tried downloading windows xp service pack 2 from micrsoft (400+MB file), the speed started out at about 1.7MB/s for the first 20MB, then dropped down and hovered around 700-800kB/s for the rest of the file
still, is there a better way to prove that it's just Powerboost and not Blast so that i can throw it in their face and get my money back??

3 edits | so last night i chat with them to complain about the bogus 16mbps that they were giving me. the billing rep said that they actually put me on the 6mbps plan and told me to contact their sales department to fix the problem, which i did. this time the sales agent told me the 16mbps BLAST plan (*i specifically asked her to make sure it's blast and not powerboost*) costs $33/month for 12 months, which is $3 more than what i were paying. so i told her to go ahead and upgrade me back to 16mbps blast. she told me the new speed will be effective in 24 hours. i have powercycled the modem but have not seen anything so far. but let's wait and see.
Edit: ok, i think i should just give up with comcast customer service department. i just checked with their billing department again. they said i was still on their 6mbps plan (!).

however, i just noticed that as of monday this week (2 days after i first placed my order), after entering any Philly address on comcast website , I stopped seeing the 16Mbps blast posted as one of the available services. so did their web programmers foul up and put it on the website by mistake and now figured it out and took it down? i am afraid so

| I'm so fed up with comcast. First they tell me May for the blast which came and went and nothing then they SWORE June 18th then on JUNE 17th i get a call from comcast saying it was pushed back to Aug 18th so of course nothing happened so i call them right now pissed off and i made sure they knew I was an unhappy customer which was enough to get me a level 3 tier tech on the phone and he says the hardware side has been done for 5 months and that it is an upper management thing and that there is now no set date listed for my county (Delaware county PA) I said I'll be switching to verizon as soon as they finish the my area and he said "you and a lot of others" he flat out agreed it was BS and said if FiOS was in his area he would switch also because he is in the same boat and his area is not expected to get blast until spring next year which he feels will be pushed back over and over like it was for my area.
So what is my point? Basically do not believe a word that comcast says about blast and get FiOS if you can as soon as you can.

Colorado always seems to be one of those places that is dead last on Comcast's upgrade list. Probably because there's no real competition here. There's QWest, but those jokers aren't competition to anyone.
