 HELP

Can anyone give me some advice as to which service to go with?
I currently have Sunrocket and got screwed $600 for 3 lines.
I want to keep my existing #'s ,at least 2 of them with the extra companion numbers they come with.
Any Suggestions?
Thanks!

Be sure to contact your credit card company..and do it quickly. If you're within the allowed time frame, you can dispute this charge. Some are also apparently allowing people to go over the time frame but doing so on a prorated basis.

As far as a provider, personally I use Vonage and am happy with them. AT&T and Verizon also seem to offer an attractively priced voip package now.

Personally, i'd stay away from these ultra low priced providers. They might very well be just another SR waiting to happen.

I am with ViaTalk, i love their service. It's pretty reliable, alot of features. Packet 8 is alright. I have heard faxing is not well because they use the G.729 codec which I hear can be changed if you need to fax. But ViaTalk standard uses a lower compression codec.

I switched to Lingo. Porting initiated 7/19 and completed 7/26. If your numbers are with Level 3 it would take only a week to port, but Global Crossing and others may take longer.

No problems here w/ the Teleblend............

While I won't discount others' problems.......I am having none.

In fact service is as good or better than it ever was w/ SR and I've had zero problems since I signed on w/ TB.

Lucky?

Dunno.

(P.S. I can't comment on Int'l calls as I just don't make any)

Teleblend has been OK for me, I am using it along side with ViaTalk. I use VT to call my family in Italy and a mix of Teleblend and VT for local.

Re: HELP

I've heard bad things about Verizon's VoIP offering, I would advise people to stay away.

I'm still on POTS, as I use my cell phone as my primary phone....

I am happy so far with ViaTalk. I also think "VoIP.com" could be a good choice if you are looking for a good, full featured, low price provider. Help at ViaTalk can take a while right now since they were never prepared for the thousands of Sunburned Rocketeers who suddenly came flying over to their service.

As far as porting over more than one SR number to any service, and getting free additional virtual numbers, I think you may be out of luck. ViaTalk cust. service told me that the SunRocket Signature (virtual) numbers are owned by SunRocket (or what is left of them) and are not available for any other service to port. In hours of searching, I also have not found any similar service that provides free virtual numbers as SunRocket did.

Seems to me that your only alternatives are to choose a good service. Let them port your primary number. Purchase additional virtual numbers, and let them assign there own new numbers for them.

Hope things go smoothly!

Good Luck.

Dunno if you were askin' me, but......yes......my VM is working great! (I just have to use the SR site still if I wanna access it online).

And, no....none of my calls have gone directly to VM like some folks have.

If you are looking for free virtual line then you should be looking at Vonics Digital.

I am going to try them out for $189.96 for 15 months of service plus they are giving free virtual phone number.

Re: No problems here w/ the Teleblend............

Nope, wrong. Packet 8 uses G.729 for voice, very efficient 30 kbps and T.38 for fax, more reliable, 90 kbps. Packet 8 depends on business customers for it's revenues and residential benefits from industrial-strength systems.

I've mentioned them numerous times in a positive light in this regard. I'm surprised that someone who stalks my posts and comments as much as you do didn't know that.

Anyways......

call your credit card company. They will issue you a credit. It may be temp or it may be permanent. But you'll likely get it.

Re: HELP

I looked into several options before switching. Net2 phone is offering to give you up to 12 months free if you still have 12 months left on your service with sunrocket. They automatically give 3 months free and then you have to send them in proof ,how much sunrocket still owns you. If they still own you 9 more months you'll get that too.
If you have the inno media gizmo, you don't have to order a new device and save the activation and shipping charges.
The only problem right now is the porting of your number, The first few days that they offered the promotion the were able to port in 24 hrs. for SR customers .If your number is held by global crossing ,it will take longer,(up to 3 weeks) they are not cooperating with them. If your number is being held by Level 3. Your in luck. They can offer you a temporary number for $5 per month, pro rated ( in you only use the number for 2weeks ,you'll get back 1/2 your money) until you get your number.
Good luck
