I have and xbox 360 elite and have the wireless xbox 360 attachment when i look for wireless networks i find mine and enter the WEP password however when i try to test it recognizes the wireless adapter but says it cannot connect to wireless network!? So I m really in the dark about what to do from here because it shows the network but i guess...wont' connect? I m not sure so any help would be awesome!

Once you're playing online there is enough lagg going on during game play sometimes that you don't want to contribute to it or experience it yourself.

| Re: XBOX 360 and FiOs(Actiontec M1424WR) You need to look in the router and see what it is assigning through DHCP, mine was 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.255. I changed the top of the range to 192.168.1.55 and gave my Xbox the IP of 192.168.1.66. The gateway I believe became 192.168.1.1 and the subnet didn't change. | |

I had the same issue. The microsoft adapter for 360 will not work. The work arounds that I have read are to buy the original xbox adapter, it will work. You can also buy another router, and just set it as an access point behind your actiontec, and that will work as well. Or, if possible, just run a cat5 drop, and hardwire it.

| Re: XBOX 360 and FiOs(Actiontec M1424WR) This wasn't too bad but I had other weirdness as well. I have a Belkin Pre-N router. After calling VZ and finding out the Actiontec is bogus with consoles, I set it up as an access point and disabled the ActionTec (VZ) wireless.
The weird thing is, my wireless laptop can only connect through the Belkin. I had tried turning on both router's wireless, to see which router had better range. I gave them separate SSID's and separate WEP keys. But I couldn't get the laptop to connect through the VZ router no matter how I fudged with it. So now I again disabled the VZ wireless.
The Xbox has great connectivity, it's pretty fast downloading demos, at least as good as it was on Cox. (Not sure how fast wireless is vs a hard wired)

| Hope you get your 360 on-line by the time Halo 3 is released.
By the way, Microsoft has lowered the price an all 360 models. The best value appears to be the Premium package thats now going for $350. Microsoft has even updated the Premium to now include an HDMI output. You no longer have to spring for the Elite to get HDMI although youll still have to if you want the larger hard-drive or black finish.

@jaeckle.com | I have the exact same problem. It isn't you, its the router. I tried EVERYTHING, but it just doesn't work.
I guess I need to buy a seperate router to bridge it, or run a wire through the wall downstairs to my Xbox.

@comcast.net
| I have an even worse issue. I have the original Xbox hardwire to my Netgear CG814WG Cable Modem Gateway with a new Cat-5 cable.
I am able to log into xbox live and play 2, just two, games of Halo 2(15-20min) after which it always disconnects me. I have done this about 150 times!
Comcast has no clues what to do(bunch of morons). I have no idea what to do(moron!). I tried to set up my xbox as the DMZ but the gateway does not 'read' my xbox; it is as if it wasn't there even though it is connected. To clarify: under computer name, i see the name of my computer, but no name for the xbox(although i see that something is connected on the ethernet outlet being used).
Any ideas? I had my computer off, so that it is not lack of bandwidth. I have 6mbps, and I used to have dsl at my old place with half that speed and I never had an issue with xbox live(halo 2 baby!) then. I know there is something wron with my router but I know people with the same router who report no issue. What the hell?
Remember it is hardwired with the proper wire(cat-5). The connection is working just fine, I abastain from using the internet on my computer so that all the bandwidth is dedicated to the xbox. I am able to connect and play just 2 games of halo 2 after which I am kicked out, as if the modem reseted itself(though i am not sure if it does) then it takes anywhere from 2-5 of troubleshooting xbox live to get it back to work for two more games and then the cycle repeats.
Anyone has any ideas? Thank you.

| Re: XBOX 360 and FiOs(Actiontec M1424WR) We were operating with no issues over Verizon dsl and a linksys WRT54g. After upgrading to fios, xbox 360 failed to make a wireless connection with the Actiontec M1424WR router w/coax. There is no problem using a wired connection so routing is not the issue. We do not have TV over fios. Verizon support was unable to resolve and only partly willing to try. The Actiontec M1424WR was swapped out but problem remained.
There seems to be a basic incompatability with the MS xbox 360 wireless adapter and the Actiontec M1424WR router that no one wants to step up and take responsibility for.
Has anyone have a successfully connected MS xbox 360 wireless adapter - Actiontec M1424WR/coax?

From what I have read so far there is a firmware issue with one or the other pieces of hardware. You would think they would get this right! Why go with a product that doesn't work with a popular console.

| Re: XBOX 360 and FiOs(Actiontec M1424WR) i just spent 4 hours dealing with this. i have called verizon and they are very little help. one rep knew of the issue but this was only after being routed around to queue after queue - so far we have had fios for a week and its been great this part just sucks. he was helpful and gave me the number for Verizon Encore? Called the Encore thing and after pressing buttons and being on hold it says "sorry your call can not be completed at this time" and then hangs up. i call the main number and i get run around in circles for 45 minutes at a time.
does anyone know what the hell is wrong with this company? does anyone know when this issue will be patched or fixed?
i have tried bridging a connection with linksys wrt150n and ddwrt running, creating a network with my mac, assigning static to the 360. nothing works. i dont have the option of hardwiring.
i also just got off the phone with VZ Fios Tech support again. This guy had NO CLUE about the issue. I asked if he had access to google and he said yes and I told him to type in "fios xbox" and click the first result (hooray google search results being #1 lol) he read this post and I believe he may have shat himself at that point. He conferenced actiontec rep into the convo. apparently they wont talk to any of us consumers according to the VZ tech. they will talk to and answer any questions while VZ is on the phone though. I asked some very specific questions:
**(summarized)**
Is this a known issue? Yes Is there a patch out currently? No When will the patch be out for this problem? Is there an ETA? Not sure and no ETA at this time. How do I work around it? You will need a new router.
For me this means switching from coax to ethernet which will cause issues when fios tv rolls into town. Personally though I would rather use my Linksys with custom firmware than this POS from VZ. I am very happy with them speed and service wise. Unfortunately I am very displeased with the lack of knowledge and the fact that they are handing out this modem/router with known issues for something that a lot of their customers obviously own.
Hope this helps some.
Personally my last ditch effort when I get home is to use an extra netgear router and set it up as a wired bridge instead of wireless like my linksys. Anyone tried that? Any luck?

| I've been using the offical 360 Wireless adapter and MI424WR router together for about two months now and it's been working fine, so I'm a little confused by this thread. All I had to do was enter my WEP key into the 360 and forward ports UDP 88, UDP 3074 and TCP 3074 to it. The 360's NAT test returns "Open" which is ideal, and I have no problems playing on Live. I have some other issues with the MI424WR, but using it with Live isn't one of them.
It also sort of works using UPnP, but after noticing some intermittent lag I checked the router and found that even though automatic cleanup was enabled, the entire port forwarding table was filled with redundant Xbox entries. After cleaning that up and adding a static forwarding rule instead things worked fine.

| Re: XBOX 360 and FiOs(Actiontec M1424WR) there is an issue connecting wirelessly - there are other forums about it. Its an issue with your Actiontec Router - I work for Verizon in tech support and have had 4 or 5 calls similar to yours. I've called Actiontec's tech support and confirmed it to be an issue. Only option now is another wireless router (access point) or hardwired until they figure out the fix. | |

1 edit | I did not have the same problem but i did have a similar problem with the actiontec router. The reason the wireless adapter wont connect has to do with the DHCP server on the router, frankly it is a piece of shit. I spent a week trying to get 2 wireless Compaq iPaq PDAs and a wireless print server to work with it and they all did the same thing. They do actually connect but they disconnect when they cant get an IP. As soon as I configured DHCP on my windows 2003 server and disabled the one on the actiontec they started working instantly. I have called actiontec about this but they refuse to admit that there DHCP server is to blame even tho I did all of the work to prove it. The only way this will get fixed is if they get off there ass and actually do some work to improve the thing or you buy a different router that actually works properly.
EDIT: I probably should add that I tried to get my devices working using the built in WAP and a d-link WAP (The d-link is NOT a router and does not do DHCP) and it did the same using both connections with or without WEP/WPA.

| Re: XBOX 360 and FiOs(Actiontec M1424WR) I read a bit more after that last post and it seems I had an older hardware revision of the Actiontec router that doesn't have this issue. All I had to do was run a Connection Test on the 360, let it get an IP, then when making the forwarding rule choose the XBox's "new-host-#" entry.
I've since replaced the Actiontec with another router instead, which is what I'd honestly recommend doing rather than spending any more time troubleshooting the Actiontec.

| I have the stock vz fios actiontec router and it wouldn't connect to my xbox 360 wirelessly. I plugged in my old linksys router from when i had comcast and it picked up all the signals and assigned ips and gateways but it did not allow a DNS server connection, on the xbox it read 0.0.0.0 and i had it set on auto. also when i bring up the router config screen, the ethernet connection to the router labeled it as a pc. is that a problem? if anyone can tell me how to make my linksys router get DNS signals and send it to an xbox that would be awesome. i have a linksys game adapter and the microsoft one, so i have open options.
