For example, my home according to CPSOS, the AT&T prequal tool, says I'm 9600 feet out on an RT. That was good enough for 6 Mbps service when I moved in over 3 years ago. But since it was marginal, I downgraded to 3 Mbps. Now when I rerun it, I only show 3 Mbps available to me.
Covad, OTOH, would offer me 6 Mbps for my loop for the longest time. Covad only runs DSL through a CO, which would have been about 18K feet out per CPSOS. Well over what I should be able to get. I reran the Covad prequal tool recently, and I couldn't even get DSL.
AT&T is looking for stability on their loops. Not because they want to keep it up for you, because a stable loop is an easier to maintain loop. What kind of customer is cheaper, one who calls in all the time or one who doesn't call in at all? |

Doesn't matter anymore. Called AT&T to get a rough date as to when we'd get our modem and service up and running. We were then told that they couldn't offer us the Elite package which we were told we could get in the first place. Seems every time we call them we get some different answer.
Called the Cable company and there gonna show up Thursday to test our line, since we had problems before and that's why we left them. Hopefully there service is solid cause we're out of options now.

It's funny when I had a cable modem and Talk America/Cavalier all you needed to do was hook the modem up to the phone line and then hook into the router. Never used any install discs before. I'm gonna miss those days. |

If after connecting the modem to a computer, if the computer gets a IP address and other TCP/IP info, that may indicate that the modem is not a bridge modem.

If you're willing hook the modem to a computer
Look at the properties for the lan connection the modem is connected to.
Does it have a IP address and default gateway?

Nope, never used the web interface for it. I just had to plug it in and it worked.
I had a 6mbps DSL connection, the highest one they offered. |

For the heck of it even though the modem should arrive around the same time as my service goes live. Has anyone been able to use the Paradyne modem with there AT&T service?
Couldn't hurt to have a spare. |

Yes! It's the black/blue one!
Called AT&T last night to see if I'd be connected by 8pm.
"No, that takes about a week once we've switched your line over." Grrrrrrrrrr!
Great, no web for a week. Hope that they're better than Cavalier in the end, they were just awful. |

Hopefully CS was correct. Depending on the mode and access to it's interface you should be able to configure it. If not then you wait for the modem like you said. |

Well we started the process to switch over early last week. Like I said a Telephone tech came to the house and switched the phone over this morning. Then I called Customer support to find out when the DSL would be connected. They said by 8pm tonight. I'll try not to get my hopes up though, may not matter until I get the modem anyway? |

Not to get your hopes up and unless things have changed. Once you come back to AT&T usually it's 5 more business days before your DSL will go live.
At least that's the way it's typically done. |

I'm at work right now and the best I can tell you is that it's a modem I received from Talk America last summer. I'll have to check it when I get home and see if there's any info listed on it. |
