Re: [Connectivity]Constant Downtim | East Coast | Maryland Area

I have had reliable service since we first got it installed in January and for the last two weeks it has been so irratic that it is frustrating to use. I am constantly losing packets and sites take many times to try and connect. Ugh!

Since you've already tried to resolve the problem with Comcast, you might try filing a formal complaint with the Montgomery County MD cable office:

Same problem! Had techs out to house 3-4 times in last three weeks. They replaced splitters, and checked signal (one guy said a 13 was coming into house, then another guy said there was a 24 coming in) .. sometimes it's okay, most of the time it sucks (worse at night).

As we speak it is happening again to me. Luckily I am at work so I can type up this message. Wife called and told me that the connection dropped again like before. Go comcast.

I had posted a new topic for what seems to be teh same issue as unfortunately I did not see this one. I live in Gaithersburg MD and every night from 9-midnight we lose connection.

But have any of you noticed if you are getting hit with a lot of anonymous ping packets... my roomate and I found that we were receieving hundreds between the hours of 9pm and midnight (when we had absolutely no internet connection). As I said in my topic, we have set the router to drop any anonymous packets but are still experiencing the problem.

Here is my line quality test.
»/linequality/nil/2264691

I currently run Debian with a separate box as a Debian firewall/router and a Motorola SB5100. Its not my setup because I have had this setup for a long time with no problems and since its fine most of the time its not the setup. Also I do this for a living so I am pretty sure its not it. In general I have had great speeds up until the last couple of weeks or so where I have been having the weird connection problems. The modem is connected directly and is not connected to any splitters.

Hope this helps voice the problems that many of us have here in Maryland.

I'm in Germantown and it has been going on for I will say the last couple of weeks. On occasion the modem will just loose connection and wont connect. I generally unplug it and my router go grab a beer, watch some tv, walk the dog, take out the trash, shower, eat, QT with the wife then plug it back in and if I'm lucky it will connect. I called Comcast and they of course blame it on my modem since its not a comcast rental. It happens at random times of the day and for different lengths.

I'm in Gaithersburg, MD and I'm having the same exact problems.

Couple nights ago my modem could not even get online.. from like 5pm til the next day.

It's been messing up like this for the past month or two.

Internet is really slow, and sometimes sites don't even work at all.

Rockville MD here and i am having the same exact problem.

Does your internet work fine in the morning then get worse after lunch then get so bad you can barely use it in the evening?
That pretty much describes it. I get so frustrated because I work from home and its next to impossible to do what I need to do email wise/web-ex wise. My connection is that unreliable right now.

An interesting twist (now maybe I'm looking into this too much), BUT after my few converstations with Comcast today, I have found out that my email accounts have been suspended for 24 hours. I just did a virus scan on my system to see if I've been hacked and I've got nothing. Kinda ironic that I informed comcast that I have 3rd party reporting to support my downtime claim and now I can't send any emails for 24 hours. May or may not be related to my complaints today. I'm sure skeptical though.

You really have to be a squeaky wheel and stay on them. I had techs come out to my house at least half a dozen times in a three month period before we started getting attention in our area. They've now identified nine problem nodes that they need to work on. Eventually a tech gave me the cell number of his supervisor and I've stayed in contact with him. He's been pretty good about calling me to give updates.

I'm also a very patient person, but that doesn't help in these situations. If you don't continuously call, Comcast figures everything is ok. I told the last two techs that came to my house that the problem would surface again and I'd probably be calling the tech support line that night. That reflects badly on them and I eventually started getting some attention. They finally put a line tech on one of the nodes and documented a lot of noise. After further investigations, they determined the nodes that needed to get worked on. The squeaky wheel analogy works with Comcast.

If you don't get anywhere with the local guys, here's what to do:
Q: How do I contact the Comcast Executive complaint Center? (#11091)
A: If you have been unable to resolve your Comcast problem after exhausting your local city's Comcast escalation process, you can escalate it to the Comcast Executive complaint Center, and they will address your issue within 24 hours.
They can be reached at: 215-665-1700

They are listed as:
Comcast Cellular Communications
1500 Market St
Philadelphia, PA 19102-2100
(215) 665-1700

line monitor
Greetings All,
I see a lot of people discussing similar issues here.

Has anyone had success convincing Comcast of infrastructure issues? I have family friend in the area experiencing the same sort of difficulties that I have experiencing. Attached you will find the results of my line monitor test courtesy of dslreports.

I've came to dslreports due to the fact I've been experiencing this off and on again service from comcast in "intervals" over the past 2 years. Usually these drops come every couple of months, and last for a few weeks. Then they go away and service is fine. Well for the past month or so, I've really been having issues again. I've had comcast techs to my home 6 time in 2 years all due to my internet. I feel like now I need to go up the latter. I'm really too patient in these situations but I've allowed for local comcast to remedy issue, and they have been unsuccessful. There are times when I have total packet loss for hours.

If anyone has any suggestions on a course of action please let me know.
