| Automatic Updates not so automatic anymore
Ok, normally I haven't had any problems with automatic updates, however, I just reformatted a PC and installed XP Pro on it; upon setting up things, I noticed it wanted to contact the net to download updates; well, the little yellow shield appears in my system try, but it never goes above 0%; when I try clicking on it, nothing ever happens. Eventually, it'll stop, then appear later.
Now, my desktop is doing the exact same thing.
Thus, is Microsoft doing something, or am I having the same exact issue on two PC's? |

Apparently another one of those "Genuine Advantage Validation" things came along, and for some reason, it didn't install automatically. After that, it wasn't getting any updates at all.
Ran the update manually, and it grabbed the above-mentioned updates. After that, the rest of the updates followed without a problem. |

| reply to Fox McCloud First of all if it gives you the choice to install the "Windows Genuine Advantage" something or the other, DON'T its not needed.
Second, you need to manually run a Windows update the first time, you need Windows Installer, BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) & WGA Validator to correctly get all your updates. -- Am Heimcomputer sitz' ich hier, und programmier' die Zukunft mir |

Second, you need to manually run a Windows update the first time, you need Windows Installer, BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) & WGA Validator to correctly get all your updates. I'm not 100% sure I had all of those, but I'm fairly sure I did...mainly because automatic updates WAS working before. |
