Where Is XP taking you Today?

I have decided not to put this New Operating Sytem on any Hardware. It was a personal choice. I am posting this not to slam Microsoft but rather to help you that have installed it. I think it has some great new features embedded and installed by default. But I have no use for any of them. The question is do you?

Firewalls you have installed are now coming up with processes that are being run and eveyone seem to be scrathing their head as to what is going on. At this link in DSLR, Vamp and others seem to be in that position....
»What is this?
I have seen many more posts like this recently in many forums.

I would like to direct you all then to this page. It does not have all the answers. But this gentleman has done a very nice job in not only setting up his two systems but he was also nice enough to give his expert opinion of what he felt was not required for him and others to enjoy this new release.

It is a breakdown of the processes installed by XP by default and then his analysis of some other ones he feel are not needed, so he has disable them or turned them off.

I think it is a start,Very informative, and just may help many of you to reconfigure that OS and surely help you to understand where this new release wants to take you today and WHY.

Then you can make the decision.

My advice, go light, XP is heavy with things you will never need, and carrying around that baggage everytime you take a trip in cyberspace ends up trying to change your itinerary.
Leave the exta baggage in your CD closet. If you really need it you know where to find it.

Be Well

Very imformative. I just bought a new Pc for my wife. And i asked the Company i bought it from to load her copy of WinMe on it. After 10 minutes of discussing why i did not want XP loaded on to the system. He said i could do it my self (He spat the Dummy). He also lowered the price i paid for PC. As it came without an OS installed on it. When i got the PC home i Installed Win2000 instead. Very happy Wifey....Very happy me knowing our home network is safe from Bill gates prying eye's and leaky.

This is another reason I'm holding off on XP:

WinXP: 20% Bandwidth Hog
Interesting tip of the day contained in this Register Article, detailing how Windows XP's QoS (quality of service) packet scheduler likes to take 20% of your bandwidth right off the bat. Links to what it does, how to remove it and links to the Microsoft documentation for why it's sometimes necessary are included. While you're at it, take a look at our Microsoft Forum for additional tips.

Right now my Windows Me is pretty darn stable so I'm sticking with it until I absolutely have to upgrade.
Thanks.

My great granddad was around when they put cigarette lighters in the car. Did not know what it was for.... never used it, until one time over at his neighbors farm, the guy asked to use it, perplexed gramps gave him the ok, the man called it a "wart burner" worked fine he said".. and would even burn warts off a hog."

Gramps never saw that auto window defroster button in his life time,I know people that still do not use it and one guy told me not to touch it as a friend of his did and it deployed the passanger air bag.

I was driving his truck at the time, he was an ornery old goat and he knew it, I almost hit the buttom, but instead I just kept looking at it and then back to him smiling like a fox.

It took me a while to figure out that Plug and Play thingie years ago, I have used it, but now days it seems to want to play outside my realm of influence, I am not looking for any hogs to burn so I am going to be keeping an eye on that one as I pass the chicken coop.
