| [Vista] Urgent Warning about WGA!
Microsoft's WGA servers are currently flagging genuine installations of Vista as counterfeit and disabling Aero and other functionality as well as a punishment. You will encounter this if you try to download any files from Microsoft's download site that require that validation to download, for example, DirectX updates. No news from Microsoft as to when they will fix the problem. Most annoying, to say the least! |

| Thanks for the link. I read over some of those posts there and it seems that MS has had a major screwup with WGA, wow! Its only a matter of time before this forum gets flooded with similar stories if they don't get it fixed. |

the validation server has been taken down by Microsoft until next Tuesday.
Hmmm...does that mean I can go update DirectX now? (I have XP Pro and refuse to "show my papers", although they are legit, in order to get downloads other than critical patches). -- "The same ferocity that our founders devoted to protect the freedom and independence of the press is now appropriate for our defense of the freedom of the internet. | reply to dminer Hmmm... for fun I just downloaded a file that requires validation and there's no problem at all (Vista Ultimate). Maybe they fixed it. -- Some people see the glass as half full. Others see it as half empty. Jack Bauer sees the glass as a deadly weapon. |

| I just used my Vista business laptop at a local wifi hotspot and, when I checked for any updates, I received a message to download and install the latest updater software. This I did and was surprised that it took so long to install (not download...not a speed issue). It 'seems' to be running fine after a restart when I went back to the Windows site. Perhaps this is related to this post? -- "What we do in life echoes in eternity." |

Activation of XP, Win2003 and Vista are all affected. Notes from MS Forums indicate activation servers may be down for a couple more days. »forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/Sho···iteID=25 -- Macy Hallock, Medina, OH and Lutz, FL Ex-telco tech, network engineer and former ISP Owner |

That's what you people get for using non-genuine software!

I don't have Auto update enabled on any of my systems but I do usually run a weekly manual update scan and also got the update for the updater on my one Vista system and my other XP systems yesterday... the XPs gave the install activex prompts while the Vista did not ... all installs did seem to take awhile even with my 8 mb download connection but all went through smoothly and after the updater installed all scans were up to date.
I've personally never run into any WGA problems with Vista, XP, Office 2007, & Office 2003 installed on the various systems. -- Got a VAIO? Visit the Village:»www.vaiovillage.com |

I'm having a problem trying to install XP PRO,XP Home, MCE 2005, I have tried all 3 Retail Disc and it keeps telling me that all of my product keys are invaild (how can this be) I know for a fact that all 3 Retail Disc are legit, I also know that they are 2 to 3 yrs old with the expection of the MCE 2005.........I can't seem to make heads or tails of any of this? the strange part about all of this is, that I have Norton Ghost backups of all 3 Windows Versions I mentioned above, and they install just fine....and NO, none of them are installed on any other PC's ..........I'm stumped on this one....any Ideas? |
