How do I deleted deleted files?

Is there a free program I can download that will delete all my deleted files once and for all off my hard drive?

Another way is when you delete files instead of just pressing the delete key on the keyboard or hitting the delete button in an application.... Select the file to delete then press and hold down the left shift key and press the delete key. This bypasses the recycle bin and in Outlook and Outlook express it bypasses the deleted items folder.

Personally I like BCwipe. It also allows for swap encryption.

He's asking for a program to actually overwrite the deleted space... Deleting a file only unlinks the file from the file system, the data is untouched until it is overwritten (which can be years).

He could be asking that and probably is. But in all fairness, he wasn't that specific. Depending on your perspective "once and for all" could mean either "I want the data overwritten" or "I don't want to have to clear the Recycle Bin occasionally."

Did you notice that rabgary and rexter1 each recommended a product that does just that ?
