I believe real life issues have derailed this project. I believe that if a volunteer is willing to step forward to take over the project, I doubt there would be an objection.

If I recall, all submissions had been taken. There was a decision to be made as to what was going to be included.

Thank you. Now it's all neatly in one place.

There was also a small discussion about opening up submissions again, however at this point if there is still interest it may be best just to start all over from scratch. It's a fantastic idea and should be continued. (In my humble opinion. )

that was my thinking... my memory is too weak to recall who was originally handling it, and i wonder if we would even be able to get everything that was being worked on... etc.

realistically though, it would probably be best to start over, etc.

Jason Levine See Profile was handling it, along with some others.

A poll for this might the best. However, a poll gauging overall interest in the project, regardless of how it works, is probably a more important first step.

Personally, I would probably submit something new but it would be only to jump on an already-crowded bandwagon.

I was just talking with my wife about this yesterday. After awhile of real life distractions, I wanted to kick-start it up again, but it's becoming painfully obvious that I just won't have time to do it. Besides, I think we've reached a point that goes beyond my expertise. I'm still willing to lend a helping hand on the project, but I think we need a new project leader to take the submitted photos and move it past the goal line. Any volunteers?

I guess the questions I would ask are:

1) Would the images that have already been submitted and selected still be used?

2) This might be taking a step back, but does anyone think it would be a good idea to allow some new submissions? I ask only because it's been some time since the selections were made and there might be some new members who would like to have a chance to participate.

3) The last update we had from Jason Levine See Profile, he indicated that the book was at the layout stage and that he didn't feel qualified or experienced enough to do a photobook layout. From this post »Re: Photobook for a cause ErthBndAngel See Profile seemed to be the most qualified with publishing and doing layouts. Does the offer still stand?

4) It may have been addressed, but has the monetary obligation been brought up? Has a determination been reached as to what the final costs will be, how the books will be paid for, what each copy will cost, etc. Or, will it be a take orders/money first type deal before ordering printed copies?

1. I would guess that the images that were submitted could still be used, though we could give people the choice to opt their images back out if they changed their mind.

2. It might be a good idea to reopen the book to new submissions. At the very least, it would drum up some renewed forum interest in the project. At the most, we would wind up with photos from newer forum members.

3. Though this could change depending on #2, the book right now is at the layout stage. We need to figure out which photos go where, at which sizes, and how attribution is done.

4. I believe we discussed prices in general. A lot will depend on how the book gets made. I looked around and LuLu.com seemed to be the best choice. No commitment has been made, though, so that could change if need be. I also hadn't figured out how best to handle the money transfer from the LuLu (or where ever) payments to the charity. (Income taxes on the sales might complicate matters.)

as far as the layout is concerned, i wouldn't go so far as to say I am an expert, but i have done a bit of page layout in my days, and have a pretty good handle on what is needed.

I agree with jason about it being a good idea to at the very least, open submissions back up, and allow people to opt in who havent had the chance before, and maybe even submit a few more, etc.

Personally I feel has the creator of the idea who was quickly removed. Yeah I felt a little hurt by that and our project didn't make it. Well yeah it was possibly my fault plus bad timing and plenty of drama at the time which led to some pretty silly actions. So I would like to take the time to apologize to our entire DI forum.

Thanks,
Wayne

So the charities are all children oriented? Get some animal and/or adult charities on that list and I'll participate.

Oh? So, the charity that was voted for does not meet your criteria? Hmm, what a shame.
