I could not believe that Cox@home suggested to use a "free" dialup such as NetZero! I was on the phone yesterday (Cox digital of course) for over 25 minutes chatting with one of Cox's level one techs in their High-Speed data department.
He informed me that an outage here in San Diego (Cox@home) would probably never happen:
•Because an outage would have world-wide consequences. •Because there were just too many @home users nationwide. •And he agreed with me that NetZero posed a hazard with its incessant ads and spyware.
I just hope that he is correct on this one. I am fortunate that I also have 6 months left of a paid up one year dial-up service, but I would hate to have to connect at 51.9 again.
Also the distributed computing that I run on both of my computers would seriously be affected because of the numerous stalls in using dialup connections to turn in finished WUs (work units).
Oh well . . .all I can say is ce-rap (sorry Justin).
